XML is completely unneeded at this point. Your map should explain, without code, how to play on it, what bonuses it should have, and what continents/symbols mean what. XML should be reserved for when proof of concept is made and interest is WELL-established.

I personally would love to immediately XML code the maps I'm working on (programmer at heart), but they're under revision on a consistent basis. All of them have had border, bonus, and continent changes in some form or another. In the XML that would require rewrites of entire sections, a big huge waste of time for a mapmaker. Keep things in those terms.

Rough sketch of what the small map would possibly look like with the gameplay legends.

Note... the province lines are tenative, and not even present in the north due to the size/label constraints at this point.

Here's what the legend on the bottom left says:
Armaments:
<<plane thing>> = Bomber Group Airbase
<<aircraft carrier thing>> = Aircraft Carrier
<<1st Cav Badge>> = Air Cavalry
Other:
<<Hut>> = POW Camp
<<crosshatch trail>> = Ho Chi Min Trail
<<arrow>> = One way attack

I'd like to formally propose calling the map simply 'NAM: 1966-75 so we don't get sucking into all the p.c. crap about was it a war, etc. etc.
<<two tunnel entrances w/ dotted line>> = VC Tunnels

Heres' what the legent on the Right says:
Bombers and Carriers can bombard N.Va, Laos & Cambodia and border Thailand & Gulf only.
Air Cav can attack up to 2 spaces away.
Ho Chi Min Trail borders Cambodia & Loas on both sides
+6 all camps & Hanoi
-1 each camp/armament pair held
+3 China & Hanoi & HCM Trail
Laos, Cambodia & China -5 Autodeploy each turn unless hold Hanoi
Gulf, Laos, Cambodia & China start neutral

First of all,XML Code is for Final Forge stage,so you just forget on these, and not waste time writing xml code for now.
Second-these like you call "Rough sketch" not have enough shape, and information to someon give any valid opinion or sugestion. Go to other project to see what version is valid for any decent sugestion.

Well I took down the sketch so the "decent suggestions" will just have to wait for TOM's update...

i have to call it a conflict because owenshooter says that its not a war it is a conflict/police action.

That's what Johnson, Nixon and Westmoreland said! Who is owenshooter, is he a presidential mini-me? Call it war as this was what it was!

Having said this you need to involve the neighboring countries esp. Cambodia and Laos (communist supply lines, inoffical US bombardements, ...)

See gameplay post on page 2... it's all going to be there. We've got some neat bombardment rules that will try to give a sense of the historical complexities and relative tacitics used by both sides. We've got the Ho Chi Min trail through Cambodia. We've got POW camps in Laos. We've got air bases in Thailand. We just don't have a pretty enough picture of it to post up yet.

I've proposed calling the map simply 'Nam: 1966-75. I'm no sucker for p.c. crap lines, but seems to me you have an era called 'Nam which is party of the American Experience (sorry PBS) in particular, but also the global experience of countries that fought (officially and unofficially) and also countries that were on the sidelines and it was more than just troops on the ground - it was political, dipolomatic, and economic and was much much more than just a war.

Maybe we can add a napam attack. I'm also thinking this idea of these "killer neutrals" might come in handy for Laos & Cambodia, but for now I think a -5 bonus there should be a fair approximation.
