Angel, doesn't 'Game Finder' do what you need?

Also one comment on this type of stat tracking... a lot of the AoR maps are being started up by the same folks. Routinely you see those maps being "exploited" (I not judging here) to poach points from noobs. If you search routinely for 1v1 public games, at least once or twice a week you'll find one person openning up a dozen +/- 1v1 games on the various AoR maps. Thats because in 1v1 they have very clear dominant strategies that people who play them a lot know and noobs dont.

Not exactly... if you're shopping for maps to start a game on, then you have to take the time to parse out the whole universe of maps and rely on your ABC's.

When I was playing Iwa Jima for a while, I'd always be looking under I... then had to remember its under WWII.

But I agree, the game finder functionality does work well. It's the "start game" screen that is getting a little to crowed... and looking at all the maps in development, I shudder to think that the answer is going to be to drop some of the more complex, less popular maps to make room for some of the stuff coming up in the pipeline.

These statistics are very interesting. Can this topic be made a sticky or moved to a more appropriate location...perhaps the map foundry?

This topic was deliberately placed in GD to help bring people (advertising) into the foundry. It is the only form of advertising that is now allowed in the GD thread. Moving it back to the foundry would remove the link back....in my opinion, the navigation of this site is not necessarily the best...i.e. you can't move between forums easily without having to go to the top of the pile. I have asked for it to be made a sticky to no availe. :) Making it a sticky in this GD thread would be most helpful. It has to be kept on this page and active in order to be worthwhile.
Placing it in here, also brings the mapmakers into this forum if they want to examine the stats, out of their hovel. :) another important issue raised in the past.

actually movement is easy. at the bottom of each page there's a "jump to" drop down menu. just select where you want to go and it takes you directly there.

with the advent of 1 vs 1 games these kind of statistic's are useless to gamers! I remember when aussie was at the bottom of the pile (nearly) and now its in the top ten!

so i will stop.

and when YOU ask someone to compile them next time, don't come looking to me, coz i won't be interested. think about my offer before we go further. if they really are no longer of any use, then i will stop.

dont get your knickers in a twist :P

1 vs 1 games are very short and hugely popular. You can play 10 or more of these types of games in the space than u can a 4 player plus. Thus your current calucations are showing bias towards these kind of maps!

So lets put our heads together and think of a way to resolve this. I will help you if you like!!

I didnt mean to offend you buddy

i start a dozen of these maps at a time not to exploit n00bs but to eliminate the advantage the person going first gets. i have also learnt to create them when Battle-Rage is asleep.

I prefer the origonal as well cainrs. Mainly becasue it put feudal 3rd ;)

p.s. you havent ordered fantasy by there movment stats. Youve ordered them by total games created since they went live.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

i love what you have done cairns. it's much more helpful like this. just 2 small issues. put us senate in fantasy and remove the WW1 categ since there are no ww1 maps.

feudal is first instead of third place but in the fantasy category (if he orders by movement)

I prefer being 3rd over all than 1st in a sub category :)

I prefer the original statistics as well. Bring them back! :)

They give a holistic view of the situation which is what matters.

However great job in compiling these lists!

gimil, this is not about seeing who's the best map maker and stuff like that. it's about helping people choose a map so that their gameplay experience is better.

if a guy comes and reads this thread (hopefully it will be stickied) the stats sorted by theme will help him a lot.

the old stats just showed him what were the most played maps not what those maps are about. now if a guy wants a game on a city map he can simply look in the city categ and chose one he likes and also has help from the stats.

Hehehehe...luv your humour on US Senate Dim.
I put the WWI category there so it could become one and also to let mapmakers know there are no maps from this period.
As i stated, these are only suggested categorizations, but to me they make very good sense.

I like both lists too, but I think that an even cooler thing to do (although I am aware it would take a fair while longer to compile) is to have a list per game type - in a few broad areas:

1v1
team games - all dubs, trips and quads of any type
standard 3-8 player games, inc Terminator and maybe Assassin, although this could be a 4th area itself

BID...you seem to have lots of time...why don't you compile it....the best job is done by the originator of an idea. :)
