That is the difference between simply communicating and true artistry in language.

I like Pete and Dud's explanation from 'Not only but also'- haven't seen the episode, but read the transcript in Lynne Truss's book on punctuation- it goes as follows:

Pete is explaining to Dud how a bronzed pilot approaches a woman on a dusty runway in Nevil Shute's "A Town Like Alice" - a woman whose perfectly defined 'busty substances' have been outlined underneath her frail poplin dress by a shower of rain and the 'tremendous rushing wind' from his propellers.

DUD: What happened after that Pete?
PETE: Well, the bronzed pilot goes up to her and they walk away and the chapter ends in three dots.
DUD: What do those dots mean, Pete?
PETE: Well, in Shute's hands, three dots can mean anything.
DUD: How's your father perhaps?
PETE: When Shute uses three dots, it means, 'use your own imagination. Conjure the scene up for yourself.' (pause) Whenever I see three dots, I feel all funny...

Aren't those three dots great?

Can someone explain what this thread is about... or at least provide an insight into the mating rituals of south-maleysian elephants...
"Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill."

Duane: You know what they say about love and war.
Tim: Yes, one involves a lot of physical and psychological pain, and the other one's war.

hmmm ... i think you have the point of this thread well under control... so i shall move onto the Asian Elephant: the Ears of this sub-species of pachyderm are vital in the mating courtship and are the primary erogenous zone! In the process of 'feeling out' of a prospective procreational pairing.. both sexes will fervently fondle one-anothers external ear flaps using their extended proboscis (or trunk).
It is well documented that the size of the respective elephants ears corresponds accurately to the girth and length/depth of male and female genitals. Scientists have surmised that this behaviour has evolved to maximise success of coupling and egg fertilization.
Once sizing and titillation is complete and If the right buttons are pressed, mating proceeds; lasting for up to 3 months. Ear-play continues throughout coitus and is widely accepted to be the key reason for the Asian elephants smaller ear size in comparison to its African cousin.
"We can find no Scientific benefit for their diminutive ear size!.... It's not evolution, it's wear and tear!" Professor Heinrich Hompenheimer Of Stuttgart University is quoted as saying.
