Map: Modded Classic + Naval Forces

MODDED CLASSIC + NAVAL FORCES

As I didn't find any idea that goes in the direction to modify the classic map by adding naval "countries", I will give it a try.

I have no access to any graphics software (except of the extraordinary MS Paint :? ) so I made an old-style draft. (I would need some one to be so kind and make a proper map out of it for me! Volunteers wanted!)

So first the image:

Image

First I have to say: IT'S JUST A DRAFT! And I'm sorry, I had no more colours left for Europe(green?), Asia(orange?) and Africa(yellow?) And Australia may also have an other colour, too.

------

Ok, now, I'll describe you the map and my ideas.
First the map: You may see the likeness to the classic map, so I won't have to explain that. New things are the red countries and "Sea Countries" (circles in the oceans) and the blue attack routes. I'll say more to that later. Bold lines are either borders of continents or mountains (later more!). If you have more questions, feel free to ask. Hope you'll understand it, but it seems pretty easy to understand, I think.

------

Ok, now to be basic idea.
First, that map may have the following basic features:

Continent N.America. Bonus 5. consist of:
- Alaska, NW.Territory, Greenland, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Western US, Eastern US, Central America
+ Cuba (NEW)

Continent S.America. Bonus 2. consist of:
- Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Argentina

Continent Europe. Bonus 5. consist of:
- Scandinavia, Ukraine, Great Britain, W. Europe, N. Europe, S. Europe

Continent Africa. Bonus 4. consist of:
- N. Africa, Egypt, E. Africa, Congo, S. Africa, Madagascar

Continent Asia. Bonus 7. consist of:
- Ural, Siberia, Yakutsk, Irtutsk, Kamchatka, Mongolia, Japan, China, Afghanistan, Middle East, India, Siam

Continent Australia. Bonus 3. consist of:
- W. Australia, E. Australia, New Guniea, Indonesia
+ New Zealand, Philipines (NEW)

Free countries (as continents) (Bonus: each 1):
- Iceland, Hawaii, Panama, Cape Town, Gibraltar, Suez, Singapore, Falkland

Sea "countries" (Bonus: none or one?):
- Arctic Ocean, Siberian Sea, N. Atlantic, S. Atlantic, Indian Ocean, N. Pacific, S. Pacific, Aleutian Islands

Total: 6 basic continents, 44 basic countries; 8 special countries (red); 8 nea countries; = 60 countries

------

Well, that were the statistics. Now to my gameplay ideas:

1. Mountains. I added some mountains to change the game's dynamics. It was just a swifty idea and can be leaved out.

2. Special free cuntries. I added these, to change the game in an way to provide new tactical hot spots as they provide access to the countries on the sea. These are placed at tactically very

3. Sea countries. These can be seen as "fleet". They provide new possibilities e.g. in faster troup movements. They can only be access in two ways from the countries with a blue line. Dotted blue lines are one-way attacks from the sea only.

By adding some countries and the sea the tactital issue changed dramatically. E.g. now Australia is no more the "Australian Fortress" as it can be accessed and attacked at more than one border. S.America is the only left fortress and provide poor bonuses.

I tried to avoid to increase the numbers of borders too much, as it shouldn't change the classic game too much.

Ok, that's it for so far. All data provided can, and should, be discussed.
Gameplay and playability and balancing may be in the focus.
I would appreciate it, if there is some experienced graphics maker out there and make a "prototype" image of that map for me!

So now, let's discuss!

I like the idea, but pretty soon we will have 2 world maps up, i think 3 will just be too much. Maybe you can make the naval idea work on a different map.

The idea doesn't suck, but I had to vote "NO" just because I don't think there's any more room for another world map. I think it's been suggested that a futuristic world map be done, maybe you could work with that idea and keep your naval bases. Water levels are rising with global warming and water from land sources is scarce. It's up to you, but that could be a different direction that would remove some of the clutter of another world map and tie in well with naval bases. :?

Free countries (as continents) (Bonus: each 1):

I like the idea, BUT the problem is that since the placement of your lands are random someone could start of with +8 armies... even if someone doesn't get them all it can be unfair to somepeople and the first round they could be stolen. a one land +1 bonus is too powerfull, but I like the idea.

and I like the whole idea, BUT as Hoff and KEYOGI said before me, I don't know if we need another world map.
I could say something interesting, but I wont

Ok, well. I like that idea and I have no problem to put it onto another map either.

Well, maybe you can give me some more ideas, which theme could be suitable (e.g. as keyogi suggested)

yeah, thats right. it is too strong to provide a +1 bonus on such countries, but it was a try. we can work on that idea further as I want the idea to have a nice gameplay.

i like the concept a lot, and think it woudl really add to any world map. Try talking with zim and seeing ifhe codul try implementing that onto his, though his map is in pretty late stages, plus it would mean redoing all the logistics which was about 15 pages worth of forum material.

Never the less, if we have 3-4 north america maps, i'm pretty sure we can stand having a similar amount of world maps.

Monk,

I'm a sailor so I'm a little biased, but I love the idea of adding a naval element to the game.

The closest CC has to your conception is the Alexander's Empire map which I've only played once so far (and lost) but it adds seas as territories that are not part of any continent. In case you haven't played it here it is:

Image

At this stage I don't want to re-open my map (I think I've just posted the last update) but I think there is definitely merit in taking this concept and either applying it to another world map or elsewhere. I think an 'ancient' style map like
Image
could be cool or do a region with lots of islands or maybe even something original or from fiction. I believe there are lots of maps this concept could be applied to with success.

On a side note I think your paper draft is excellent so don't worry to much about having it 'digitized'. If you get to the right answers on territories, etc., the graphics are pretty straightforward.

Cheers,

Zim

as far as the futurestic risk goes. theres an actual risk game for that. called risk 2210 ad.

it has new territory names, undersea colonies. as well as the moon. very interesting. i think someone should adapt that. since we have allready adapted the classic version.

Have you lot seen the Seven Seas map? It has a similar concept.

Take a look.

Maybe overlay the classic map on the blacked out continents and re-work the oceans...Could be sexy, no?

mixing the two maps might end up with something very confusing but it might also be fun to play

wait maybe a week and i will look for a possible new theme. then i'll put up a new draft and then you could make that one.

edit: the seven seas map is more fixed on the sea and would be too complicated, if mixed with the classic world. i just want to add some dynamics and new tactical possibilities
