Completed Tasks since last update:
1. Replace Legend on both maps and/or Sharpen text to make clearer on small map

2. Change highlighting of North Country Trail to help clarity

3. Fix Tunungwant 02 so that the circle isn't covering the whole area

4. Reduce oil field density in northeast

5. Fix neutrals on auto bonus villages and dig sites

6. Create background for map


Updated to do list:
7. Give private lands more stark appearance

8. Make small map with 88s

9. Fix map title to reflect state where forest is located

10. Edit xml to match changes (note that I've already written the xml except for the x and y locations)

it definitely looks better!
however: the trail is a little hard to see. its not too bad, just a little...
you said you changed the neutrals. where? they're the same...
what happened to the +5 for all the trail shelters? it was a good idea.
where you explain the trail shelters attacking eachother, say "... is used to allow territories with trail shelters to attack other territories with shelters." it seems kinda awkward the way you have it worded now.
you have lots of one and three neutral terits. how about some 2s out there?
also, is it the standard way of winning, or is there an objective, like get all cities and villages?
do the cities and villages count as part of the region bonuses?
maybe add a bit of colour behind the legend?
the bridges could have better graphics. right now they don't look like bridges at all.

other than that, its great! as i said, unique gameplay, and can't wait for things to turn out. it will be a fun map when (actually if) it gets quenched, good luck! :D

EDIT: i think a mod needs to come soon...

hey thanks Rocky! I made some of those changes. I had forgotten about changing the neutrals on the villages so I did it and made another update.

The rivers need work. They're very...opaque. I think that's the best way I can describe them. They're heavy and pixely. Sorry I can't explain much better.

If I were you, I'd get rid of the bonus and negative-bonus for the wilderness areas and the oil/gas fields. They just make the gameplay overly complex, IMO. Then again, I like simpler maps.

Some of the text in the legend is hard to read because of the color, especially the "Allegheny River" and "Tionesta Creek" bonus text. Also, you have some seemingly useless bits of text, such as "Trail also crosses private lands."

For the canoes, I'd make the river-current arrows in the river itself, not next to it. I was a bit confused as to which way downriver was at first.

I think the whole map would be much more palatable if you made the borders thinner. The whole map just feels very heavy right now. If you remove some of the clutter, things will be better.

Hey thanks Zeak. I tried the arrows in the rivers thing a long time ago. It wasn't as clear. So unless you have an idea of how to make it work and look like a river, I'm not sure I want to go down that route again. Would it help to have a note on the arrows in the legend maybe?

I hear ya about the opaqueness though. I originally did that on purpose because I wanted the rivers to be obvious. But you are right after a number of revisions they need not be so opaque. I'm not an artist so if anyone has input on how best to do this please chime in. I appreciate it.

Zeak, do you feel that the text was hard to read before AND after I added the color background to the legend? I'll look at it, but wondering if making the background lighter would work or if I need to do something else.

And yeah, streamlining text is good. Thanks for the input man! Things are really moving!

I think that text has always been hard to read. You could make the text black, and give it a colored glow, to combat that. Or make the text black and put it on top of a rectangle of the continent color. Or something like that. Just mess around with a few things and see what looks best and most legible.

i just realized there are 2 different types of river. the water by cornplanter, and the others.
i agree with zeak about the borders. they should be thinner.
the neutrals are better now :D
what program are you using? i could help you with some things if ur using fireworks. if not, i haven't a clue...

I wound up doing the rectangels w/ black text as zeak suggested. I think it will work.

I doubt the trail crosses private land is vital. At the same time I'm not sure it matters since the shelter symbol and trail symbol take up a lot of space anyhow. I suppose I could try rotating them or shrinking the shelter symbol in the key.

I have not reinstated the 5 trailshelters bonus and I agree that I should. (note to self)

Thinner borders will take a long time but I will do it tonight or tomorrow night.

deploy on above the dam 4. attack the tree territory beside it, advancing none. if there are 6-7 armies left attack above the dam 8 from 4. advance 3 armies.
from Tidioute attack its township advancing all.
from Tionesta attack its township advancing all.

deploy on ridgeway and attack the one and head south until i have 3 left. keep them on the last territory attacked.

OK ,, Great idea sea, because not only is it a test play but we can clarify whats confusing and you can change accordingly.. OK my Move ... deploy all on tionesta city..attack from Ridgeway city To unnumbered 1 and advance all if victorious... attack from marienville city to unnumbered 1 and advance all if victorious. End Attacks and No forts..
TURN 2: Deploy 3 on tionesta city. Attack from tionesta city to unnumbered 1 .. Advance all End attacks fort 3 from ridgeway city to unnumbered 5..

where is the "township" territory for Muzette village?


good question. There is none. Only village without one. Muzette is only accessible via the North Country Trail. This may need to be more clear.

I posted this in your other map thread also. Your "turn by turn game play testing" is cluttering up your development and thread, and making it hard to follow. Perhaps taking it to private would be better.

Update (6/2/08): Test games are in progress. Test players should remember to edit original posts instead of making new posts to post moves. I have updated a to do list at the of of post #1. I had a bunch of good comments from just before gameplay started that I had to put off until now. My priority is thinning the territory boundaries. It is in progress. Otherwise, anyone can check out the game maps and logs to get an idea for how gameplay is going and provide input.

After this post there shouldn't be any game posts, except for possibly daviedoo's game post.
