Jesus of Nazareth was just a human who for whatever reason was given credit for being the son of God, even though he was just your average human being. I guess people need a source of security, and Jesus provided a way for humans to relate to God. Nonetheless, Jesus is just a person. God is that than which nothing greater can be though (TTWNGCBT).

Jesus and God are the same entity like the Holy Spirit.

That's why it's called the Trinity.

I still say "Great Zombie Jesus" is the best exclamation ever.

I've started saying "Oh my Science!" instead of oh my god...religiously correct?

All Muslims I know don't have problem to say Mohammed or Allah. Perhaps in Iran or Saudi Arabia it may be a problem but nowhere else.

It's in the Ten Commandments.
The Muslim world has traditionally taken a stronger stand on the "graven image" one, which Christians tend just to ignore

No, now you are talking about something yet again different.

The Roman Catholic ... and Protestant church, which arose from the Roman Catholic church, all more or less consider this to mean you cannot worship images and say they are God.

The Eastern church has traditionally not wanted to put certain images in print.

Sure, but this all comes from the same source - Christians, Jews and Muslims are all "people of the book".

There have been christians who were far more unforgiving of graven images than most - look at many a space where a statue once stood in plenty of British churches, monasteries, and cathedrals.

I quite liked (forget the authors name - wrote "Just another Wayside Attraction") - Jesus Fucking H Christ on a Harley Davison!

Wash my mouth out with soap and water. But I did laugh when I read it.

Surely the commandment was meant to prevent fraudelent behaviour along the lines of ' God told me it was ok to sleep with your sister ', this would be a case of taking his name in vain not just exclaiming ' Oh God ' . If I happen to blurt out 'Jesus Christ 'after striking my thumb with a hammer then I am not doing so in order to upset anybody, the same would apply if I named a teddy bear Mohammed. If religion is to be used as a tool for good then more tolerance is required and less time spent on irrelevence.

This rule applies only to those within the religion. Outside ... it is just a matter of manners. There are certain words Emily Post suggests we don't use because they might offend others. You can take here advice or not ....

As for the "less time on irrelevances" ... well said! On the other hand, manners can go a long way to soothing short tempers and keeping hard situations easier. That is their purpose, not to be sticks with which to hit people.

Hey Curly, I'm disappointed in you. :(

It would seem as if you're running out of material to the point where you are simply repeating my phrases from different threads.

Or the enlightened, its all a matter of perspective. Does it bother you when atheists are insulted or reviled because of their lack of faith, or Mohammed and his followers are abused ? If you wish respect from others for your beliefs then you should show the same respect for theirs,do you ?

No, after all, I have invisible friends around me all the time. I can't see them (thus they are invisible) but I hear them from the radio. ;) (Marian Webster's Unabridged 2nd definition : inaccessible to view : out of sight : )

No I don't respect atheist beliefs but I do accept it. 8-)

Do you see me going around trying to discredit atheist beliefs? I think not. [-X

The question isn't about respect my freind. It's about acceptance. ;)

Err no I think you will find that we were asked what was wrong with saying Jesus Christ, it
was a question concerning respect. I assume as you have no respect for other beliefs that consequently you do not object to people using that expression , yes ?
