Who Here Wears a Watch?

Postby Optimus Prime on Mon Jul 14, 2008 12:54 am

I know this may seem like a silly question, but I was sitting in church this morning, and was glancing around because I was a little bit distracted, and noticed that nobody seemed to be wearing a watch besides me. So, I'm just curious if because of the current widespread nature of the cell phone and other such devices if the watch has become obsolete for everyone else as it seems to have become for everyone I am surrounded by.

I like my watch, my wife bought it for me on our first anniversary last year. I don't wear it every single day, but I do wear it fairly often, and especially if I am getting dressed up nice for a function of some kind.

So, it's a simple poll, just to sate my curiosity. :)

Never really did. And I really don't carry around a cell much either.

I have a tendency of being too lazy to change watch batteries, but I've received many watches over the years as gifts, and I usually wear them until the battery dies. I haven't received a watch recently so I don't wear one at the moment.

I have a rewindable watch. (aka. The battery died in the other watch)

I never go out without a watch, or a mobile for all that matters.

I used to always wear a watch (literally always...). But then I got a cell phone, and that kinda stopped.

Plus those damn digital watches that were supposed to be waterproof kept dying in the shower.

I always wear a watch ever since I was a kid (which is a long time) I take it off to go to sleep, so when I forget and leave the house w/o it I feel naked, besides the fact that I keep looking at my wrist and seeing that the time is 2 freckles past a hair all day. I have a cell, but it seems so much easier to just look at my wrist than to take that dang thing out of my pocket.

As for the battery running out, I wear the cheap black plastic "Cassio"s. For $14-24 it's extremely accurate, has an alarm, and by the time the battery runs out in 3-5 years, the band is cracking and it's time for a new one.
The right answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer to the real question.

I only wear the watch for school and certain functions. During the summer or days off, I don't wear it every single time I go out.

I wear a watch, it's a simple one with my alma mater's coat of arms on it. I also have a cell phone. BUt it is still easier to turn my wrist to check the time than to reach for the phone on my belt. (On the other hand, if anyone mentions a date, my phone is currently set up to display the current month when opened.)

A watch with your alma mater's coat of arms?! Geez, that must have replaced the calculator watch you wore from 1978 onward.

As to topic, I wear a watch Mon-Fri at work, occasionally on the weekends if I go out to dinner (and its a Movado).

I used to when I was younger until my younger brother left it out in the rain. I just use my cell nowadays although if a grandparent were to get me one I would wear it.

Huh, looks like there are actually more people than I thought who wear a watch on a somewhat regular basis.

I wear a watch every day, unless I can't find, at which time I go stir crazy because I hate not wearing a watch.

My wife bought me a solar powered watch that is tied to the atomic clock in Colorado by a satellite. The battery never runs out, and the time is self-adjusting so it is never wrong.

You carry your phone around your wrist?

I almost always wear a watch. Even though you could find a clock anywhere in the house, I find it easier, and I don't have cell phone's, etc...., so I use it always (except for when I'm in the shower, or any other type of water) Ink, watches are water resistant, there's nothing completly water proof.

If I had a fancy watch I would wear it out; but that is more of a case of wearing jewellery than wanting to tell the time.
