I don't believe its the governments Job nor really their right to interfere in their citizen's lives. A government is for protection and thats it. If the oil companies want to charge 100 dollars per gallon then let them. But eventually people need to get weened off of the perverbial government's teet. haha...teet. But anyway... have some freaking personal responibility. If people are buying gas for 100 dollars per gallon then thats there fault. If people would stop relying on the government to fix their problems and stop buying gas at such a high price then the price will have to go down in order for the oil companies to make a profit. Sell you car and buy a hybrid, take public transportation, ride a freaking bike. Its not the governments job to make sure that you are happy. Have some personal responsibility, the government should stay out of ourlives as much as possible.

eww no. That will just mess up the economy. If your economy is fine but some other country's economy sucks and the value of this international currency drops in that country, then the value of it will drop around the world. Especially with the way the world is globalizing it will easily affect the economy of a country on the other side of the world. The whole Earth would be in a depression.

Dude, I do ride a bike. Never owned a car in my life, and I don't plan to until they run off something other than gas. So I'm not on any teats that I know of. Unfortunately. Nor freaking teats.

We evidently have very different conceptions of government. The government, in theory at least, is a collective body representing the choices of the citizenry, evidently imperfectly, but whatever. If the citizenry collectively decide that they want to make laws to accomplish collectively what you want them to accomplish exclusively individually - i.e. create conditions where the gas companies are forced to reduce prices - then gas companies can choose to comply or give up the market presided over by that government. Now I know you're not going to agree with me on this - Philadelphia is after all the cradle of a conception of democracy that is built around the notion of too much government being an oppressive force - but in a democracy, collective expression of choice is not an illegitimate bastard in the shadow of individual expression. There are certainly problems that can develop with this, which is why you have things like your bill of rights, but unless a democratic choice is made to tie the public's hands so oil companies can rape them, that is not an inherently more legitimate position, no matter what that punk Jefferson may have thought.

When the closest shop available to you is in a giant Wall Mart miles out of town, which has undercut all the local business and shut them down, and the only way to get there is by car because the public transport system is crap because the government decided to let business take care of it, and business decided it wasn't profitable... then you might figure government intervention is necessary.

I don't like the idea of the government interfering in our lives but complete unrestrained capatalism has disastrous effects.

Max a global currency doesn't have much to do with this, would be impossible to implement and even if it could be, it probably wouldn't be a good idea anyway.

Voting comment.....

Postby Scarus on Thu May 04, 2006 2:19 pm

I only have just a minute here and am not sure what you are referring too. I'll guess that you're wondering if I'm going to persist in calling braindead, chadhanging, automatons, (Republican Voters....lol), Morons.

Well, of course I do!! I can see the very wealthy protecting their own interests by electing legistlators who think like they do. After all, all of the representives at the Republican National Convention are at least millionaires.

What I don't understand is how joeblow working guy can be so easily swayed to give up his vote to support the interests of the very wealthy. They couldn't do it without him, yet he sells his soul so cheaply.

I was once a great deal more idealistic myself, and I do recognize the validity of some of the points that the college students are making here. But this is reality. This is not American Government 101. We are talking about pervasive corruption and infuence peddling. We are talking about a massive Reaming of the American people, without any KY......

First of all you are thinking very narrowmindedly, which many voters on both sides do. And it is just ridiculous.

If 10 years from now I'm broke with out a job, car or house I do not expect the government to bail me out. Thats my fault, and the tax payers shouldnt have to pay for my screw up. You didnt really make one point or state any reason for your Republican hating. It seems to me that most people don't think for themselves and just feed into whatever BS people are telling them. That goes for both sides. Its just so frustrating when people think they are correct when they don't even know the other side to something. If someone comes to a different conclusion then me, thats fine as long as they have thought about all the angles. But narrowminded people just feeding into all the crap that is being thrown around is what America's real problem is. Its not Bush, its not republicans, its not democrats, its apathetic people who dont think, don't care, and that just believe everything they hear. And if they get screwed over by big corporations then thats their fault and no fault of the corporations.

If you hate walmart because its too far away and is ruining the local business then do something about it. Don't shop there, get other people not to shop there. And if you didnt do anything about it and now the local businesses are out well then you have nobody to blame but yourself. Its not the government to blame for not restriciting walmart for being successful.

Any of you ever visit uncyclopedia
http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Main_Page?

Here's the entry for risk:

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Risk

It could be better though, any of you guys got anything funny to add? It's a wiki, so yeah free for all to edit.

Can we do the debating in another thread... go on start one up I dare you. I mean I know I kinda started it with my peak oil comment, but this thread isn't serious, it's supposed to be fun and such.

Just a reference to an old Monty Python skit:

"And Now, a massage from the Swedish Prime Minister..."....lol

It amazing to me that we are actually stumbling along with our dominatrix cahoots driving the thread......lol

Which reminds me. You xiGAMES members, check out the new pictures that cahoots has posted at the xiGAMES site. It looks like her real life harem is almost as big as her pack of C Club puppy dogs.

Pretty much, serious discussion is not for this thread. This thread is for... fun. To me it's a worthwhile thread because it generates a sense of community.
