For me, this is merely another crossword type map, the first thought that popped into my head when reading/looking at this was, "Why?" In my own opinion, there's no allure, no real reason to play this. It's the same problem I have with the Periodic Table map, but perhaps I would just rather play a more geographically centered map than geometrically.

-my two cents, take it or leave it-

i like the concept, but i have to kindof agree w/ dublin on the "why" question. its kindof hard to get excited about conquering "pentagon."
Do you need an excuse to have a war? I mean, who for? Can't you just say "You got lots of cash and land, but I've got a big sword, so divy up right now, chop chop."

Well, first off: You need to change the lay out of recatngle, maye have 2 rows and make it 8 countries, but don't make them a line liek that. Also, try and divvy up the pentagon into smaller pentagons, lets see if i can get this to work w/o drawing it...

EDIT: sketched it on paint

Image

pentagon is 5 territories, each of which is a pentagon in itself to form a big pentagon

I would suggest dropping this now, this just will not end up looking good, you could create a great playable map, but if the basis is shapes, it won't look coherent, or anything like a map. If you can think of a way to make it look really good, go on, if not leave it here. Good Luck

Not sure how but the map in the first post changed instead of me uploading another one.

Had a quick play with colours (although my choices are very limited using paint), changed rectangle and pentagon layout

shfbballnut: Im going to keep going with it unless i get an overwhelming amount of people not wanting to play it

I have full faith that you can make it into a great map to play, what I'm worried about is what you're going to do visualy. I'm a little limited in my vision of how a shapes map would really look good.

i was thinking along the lines of trying to make the whole thing look like some doodles in a maths book but ive seemed to stray from that path..

to be fair im not a very talented artist at all and using paint i am kind of limited... but if i could get that theme to it it might start to take off only problem would be clearly defining continents at a quick look

So very true.

Try making a computer map, that would be geometrical.

i like that idea a lot better, gives it some interest. try downloading gimp or inkscape, theyre both free and infinitely better than paint.

yeah, tons easier.

plus hexagon continent needs new boundaries, its pretty messed up as is. Maybe try doing a pentagon type thing with that.

Also, i'd make circle in the middle, give it 5 segments, and have each segment go out to a different other shape continent, so circle coudl become a power territory.

I see that you've developed a unique idea...but I don't see much mass appeal...or really any at all...for this idea.

Inkscape has no "fill with colour" option, but I just put the document into paint at the end and do that, but the secret to inkscape is right-clicking an image and using "fill and stroke." great tool for transparency.
