My son had a sleepover tonight, and this is a summary of all their votes. CM punk had some suport too, Triple H had more. Rey Mysterio woulda walked away with it if he'd been in the list of options.

Oh, the vote was Jeff Hardy/Undertaker/Batista

Absolutely. I love the way that about half of each show is people taking about what they're gonna do, or just looking mean and glaring.

Not enough to watch it though. I leave that to the next generation.

Degeneration X - was arguably one of the best wrestling stables (Degen X or NWO) around in either its first or second incarnation. The multiple titles he's held. Of course you can't forget that he's married to Vinne Mac's daughter Stephanie which looking at it from a business perspective puts you right in the line for succession ....

the originals were the best stable

dx arent even close
evolution would own them...
exolution h could own dx h
batista can beat hbk
ric flair and orton are amazing too so theyd hammer road dog and all them

I still watch, but every match has to have a silly ending, because only the stars wrestle each other. Old days, you would watch the star vs victim (jobber) matches, and see all their cool moves. But when they got int he ring together, a finisher, meant a finish. So there were 100 ways to escape having the figure 4 on you, but unless you were a top notch guy, once it was on, you gave up. WWE pissed all over Flair's legacy by having everyone able to escape the hold.

Excellent post. There is almost never a clearcut, fair winner nowadaze.

If you can't get to the ropes in about 1/2 a second, the Figure 4 will make you tap. Seeing guys taking the pain for 5,6,7,8,etc. seconds is retarded.

It has gone from very hard to believe to utterly ridiculous.

Oh, and Triple H, Batista, Orton of the one's listed.

nobody has the figure 4 leg lock as a finisher anymore
the only current wrestler who can do it is hbk but
1. he never uses it
2. hes about to retire

The point is that at the end of Ric Flair's career, they would show guys taking the pain of the Figure 4 for an extended period of time. Realistically, if you didn't tap, you'd pass out from the pain.

And the list of finishing moves goes on. How many guys use the DDT now and the opponent gets to his feet? I suppose nobody does it like Jake the Snake...but some guys come close.

There are about 20 guys that are supposed to have the pain threshold of Hulk Hogan when he's "Hulking Out"...the power of Hulkamania is being felt by way too many wrestlers.

Don't get me wrong. Many current wrestlers are excellent athletes and great performers. It'd just be nice to see someone lose a match fair and square.

I think of it as watching stuntmen, really.
I only ever saw one match live, at the British GenCon - the wrestlers were all z-list. The only one my son had heard of was "Gangrel". But from close up, the level of fakery was embarrassing.

Rowdy Roddy Piper as my avatar shows

Why? One of the personality standouts that people still imitate. I think another one was Randy Savage. Piper was also able to cross over into film & tv acting. Hulk Hogan paved the way and Piper sort of was a pioneer as well.

He's just looking for current WWE wrestlers.

Piper is my all-time favourite.
