I think both of those two choices suck ass.

If you are going to listen to rap, it should be Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan (w/ Raekwon, Meth, RZA and ODB), and occasionally some Spice1, Black Sheep, Ice Cube... But, old school stuff... Anything after 1995 is complete shite...

If you are going to listen to rap, it should be Mobb Deep, Wu-Tang Clan (w/ Raekwon, Meth, RZA and ODB), and occasionally some Spice1, Black Sheep, Ice Cube... But, old school stuff... Anything after 1995 is complete shite...

Now now, it's not like that's all I listen to. And it is worth mentioning that the song I posted was on an album released in 1994.

Cube was never that great, just had a big personality. NWA was never all that, either. Wu-Tang is the best rap collective, unless you can count The Roots as such, at least, before they had to kick Malik B out to get clean.

And I do have to disagree with you about modern hip-hop. Kanye West, Talib Kweli, and Dizzee Rascal are all recording albums that are just as epic, and I think will be just as lasting, as those you mentioned.

You should. I don't listen to Kanye either, but Talib Kweli and Dizzee Rascall are very good. (Though actually understanding what Dizzee is saying requires some time.)

If you're serious about checking out Kweli, be sure to get "Reflection Eternal", the album he did with DJ Hi-Tek as the DJ. Also, the group Blackstar, which consisted of Kweli and Mos Def is absolutely required listening.

Stand out song from "Reflection Eternal" that would be good to start with is "Soul Rebels". It features De La Soul on the track, but includes one of the coolest literary references Kweli's made (which he does a fair amount).

Also check out Common's "Like Water for Chocolate", or Slum Village's "Fantastic Vol. 2". Village is another hip hop collective. You may have heard the song "Conant Gardens" off that album, it got radio play back when it was released, in 2000.
