It's only now that the gloss of history has made him into an icon. He was a charismatic leader for sure during his time, but only after charismatic Clinton outshone Bush I by miles did the conservatives try to invoke the "grandaddy of them all" as an icon. In his time, there were a fair amount of comic charactures, like the Genesis video I posted. His "tough guy" actor persona was often lampooned ...

Reagan does deserve props for constantly mocking the commies in Russia. He told some good jokes from behind the lectern.
