What to do in Washington.

Postby Bertros Bertros on Wed Sep 03, 2008 8:53 am

I upgraded my long term girlfriend to wife last weekend and so we're off to Seattle on Friday for our honeymoon. We're planning on a trip to the Cascades for a week or so, maybe some sailing in San Juan area, but true to form have confirmed very little at this late stage...

Anybody from or got experience in the Washington/Oregon/Pacific Northwest area who could recommend some places to visit, good restaurants or accommodation, things to do etc. Of course we have a guide book so are aware of most of the major attractions but would be grateful of any local insight into whats good at this time of year etc

Cheers

As soon as you arrive in any major city, get a copy of whatever their Alternative Weekly paper is (like what Village Voice is for NYC).

That will have current listings for various entertainments and local points of interest. It's the same resource the locals will use, in determining what they'll do with their free time. Just a good rule of thumb.

Have a great honeymoon.

No, the upgrade itself was seamless, though I did keep getting a pop-up shortly after finishing the upgrade process...

pimpdave: Good idea, I'll head for one of these infamous Seattle coffeeshops and find a paper for some tips on some of the also infamous Seattle music scene. Cheers.

I thought you meant Washington DC, in that case I would have recommended a truck full of explosives or so, I don't know about the state Washington though.

Yeah I thought so at first. Untill he said northwest...

Tim: Yes, one involves a lot of physical and psychological pain, and the other one's war.

Go be close to Kurt "No-Brain"'s grave (I knew a girl who moved to Seattle for this express purpose)

Which, off topic of Seattle, but is on topic of rock stars and firearms:

What were Marvin Gaye's father's last words to Marvin? "Hey Marvin, I got a 45 I want you to hear . . ."

I think we can do without jokes of that calibre.

I am thoroughly confused. I thought Marvin Gaye was killed with a shotgun, not vinyl.

technically, Marvin was shot by a .38 revolver, but records don't come in a 38 speed.

Yeah, I was trying to be funny, which I'm not. I had always heard it was a shotgun, and looking it up, I can't find what kind of gun it was (so I'll take your word for it), but oddly enough, the shooting happened 1 day before his 45th birthday, adding a whole new level of wit to your joke.

Well good to see the that the general level of helpful response to semi-serious questions here has dropped from barely useful to totally crap. But cheers all the same, what do I care, I'm on holiday tomorrow anyway.
