And you should be. Don't sugar coat it that just has a tendency to backfire. Anyways I was just making an observation of what happened, not trying to tell you how to handle it.

Trust me. Bands are great. Just make sure you can play though. One of my friend's decided to join a band once. He's a great drummer problem was that the lead singer was horrible. Kept claiming that he was the best thing since sliced bread but couldn't hit a note to save his life. Needless to say that the band didn't last long.

Yes, thankfully I was born without that gene.

Now it's your turn Jonesy.

OK, here's the cast:

Me at 17 years old ('nuff said)

George (same age, My best mate since we were in the equivalent of 2nd Grade) - sometimes known as "Falling-down-drunk George" due nto his propensity for doing just that after about two pints.

Annette, a local girl we'd just met.

ANnette was one of those people you will meet from time to time that can't open their mouth without making up a story.

Sometimes the stories are meant to impress, or evoke pity, or to scrounge money - but usually they don't even realise what they're doing. For instance, at Christmas we dropped and broke the package which contained her Xmas pressie for my Mum and Dad - it was a garden ornament of some sort. SHe claimed it had been vastly expensive, imported by a frined of hers blah blah blah. I later saw one just the same in the bargain section of the local garden centre.

One thing that was true was that although she was only a little older than me, she'd already been engaged three times, and only just stopped short of marriage - she showed me the three wedding dresses. She cam up with all sorts of tales of who these guys had been, and how the weddings had failed to happen - I later discovered one of 'em was my mate Danny, a penniless dropout stoner, and not at all the captain of industry she'd portrayed.

Anyhow, I start going out with Annette, despite growing doubts - I was a very trusting person (still am I suppose) and too naive to work out, for instance, that if she actually owned a half-dozen houses, she wouldn't have needed that £5 from me to pay off a debt, no matter what the convoluted story behind her momentary lack of funds.

George, it seems, has fallen in love with her. (George at this point has incidentally never had a girlfriend - he was very shy of girls despite having three sisters. He never gets to know girls at all except by meeting them through me - oh except the time I dated his sister and he double-dated with her friend. That relationaship lasted about three hours). He doesn't tell me this, but hangs around us all the time. (I don't particularly notice this since George and I had always hung about lots together). He does often make "you lucky dog!" comments and similar.

Now George at this point has more money than me - I've not long left school and he's been in the working world for two years already.

I gradually notice that I see George less often, except when I'm out with Annette. Not suspicious, as it's when I'm with her that I'm going to concerts. films, whatever, as opposed to just hanging about.

When I eventually dump Annette (one story too many), George dissappears from the scene altogether. I didn't see him again until we were21, when he invited me to his wedding (not to Annette) - but it transpires that he's been avoiding me because of how guilty he felt for not only going out with Annette after we split, but throughout the whole time we were going out!.

Frankly I think if I'd realised he was interested I'd have just stepped aside - but George felt so guilty, he honestly never felt comfortable in my company again.

He was, a great guy. He was also one of the only people I ever knew who had a clear idea of a career path when they were less than 10 years old (and stuck to it). He always wanted to be a pastrycook. WHy, I don't know - he didn't get it from his Mum, who was a dreadfl cook, or from anyone else in his family.

I always wanted to ben astronaut. Actuallly, I've stuck to that. I still would if they'd let me.

He left school at 15 and got a job at the local bakers - last I heard, he was still there, cooking pastries.

The girl he eventually married was much older than him, and had a coupla kids already, the eldest of whom was nearer George's age than she was. A fine woman whose name I forget.

True but I was thinking that before you started your story. By the time it got half-way through I realized just how unlikely that was.

I would like to either be a doctor or animal researcher. I don't know if I'll do either one.

In a long and often strange life, I have met many dubious people - but she was the first to teach me that, like virginity, you can only lose your honest reputation once.

I've got another idea for a story. I won't go into much detail but a guy finds a weird device and realizes through freaky circumstances that anyone who has it can only be killed by any outside cause (in other words, if you get shot or poisoned it will be like nothing happened but if you have a heart attack due to poor diet or whatever you'll still die). I haven't got far into the plot (really Im not sure if I'm going to) but I would imagine that the story would revolve around the consequences of using such a device.

Yes but you forgot to mention naked women. It's just not a story unless there's naked women.
