EDIT OCT 10th:

It took me a while to get something I liked, but I have finally got a decent looking water background for the state. I have also made significant changes to the territories in this latest update. Talking a little bit more about the territories, I do have a bit of a liking to this new rocky/sandy look. Below you will see more information about the map. The sections currently are Plans and Older information.

Plans:

==========Bonus Plans:

--- Remove tree bonuses.

--- Create bonuses that are beach themed.

--- New bonus items could be the following: Buckets,Toy shovels, Beach towels, Sand castles, Sun lotion, Volleyball, and possibly others, and some of these may be excluded.

--- Bonuses, if the above are implemented, will function as sets. Different combos will yield different reinforcements.

Older information that still applies:

--- Impassables. I may ramp up the number of them in the south, connected from the Lake Okeechobee to the Atlantic/Gulf.

--- Still yet to create impassible crossings, have not done that. I also am considering adding at least two ports, one in a western territory, and one in a south territory, so that players cannot just fortify and protect the two countries Pensacola and Tallahassee with that one territory bottleneck.

--- I have not created varying colors of the bonus text for easy recognition to which countries the names point to (nessesary, as not everyone knows where FL cities are). For now, Just keep in mind that the bonuses are relatively listed from top to bottom.

This is a great idea for a map (especially since I live there ;) ). I don't have many comments right now, only one question: what about the Keys? You should add them as a territory at the bottom.

Oh darn! I forgot about those pesky keys, and I live in Florida! I will look into getting them inserted into my drafted map; sorry to those who are not on my map lol. I also will get some rivers planted out, as well as putting in lake Okeechobee. Being Floridian myself, I naturally want to see my own state implemented. I might do a little bit more work tomorrow figuring out how to tinker the graphics, and maybe look into how to do map XML.

I will do XML if you wish, if you do not, XML is very easy code to learn.

Yes, I hear Florida is very flat, isn't it very swampy there? Maybe a major swamp as an impassable. Anyway, good work and I hope to see more.

or as a negative bonus (ie lose 1army each go) as a risky way to get from 1 bonus to another

I have updated with a few little edits.

---I have created a little border around the country listing, so it looks nicer.

---Added a few rivers, with no bridges yet. I may change rivers at any time or as suggested.

---Added little swampland icons in the south, which may be replaced by something else in the future. I am debating what positive or negative impact I will associate with swamps yet.

---Last but not least, I have created a very early texture for the Lee territory (see lower half of map). I am bound to improve it, but I would also like to know if anyone likes the direction it is headed.

As the number of CC games I am playing right now goes down ( I have so many it takes hours a day to play them, with games peaking at 102 briefly), I will have more time to work on the map and improve it. Anyways, keep your suggestions and input coming. I need every bit of it to map my map as interesting as possible.

There is one thing I am thinking about whether or not I will add it. Maybe I could add the Kennedy Space Center and give it some sort of function? I don't know, it's just a thought. I'm also wondering whether or not I'll throw in the major parks in Florida for people to conquer and hold as bonuses, such as Busch Gardens and Seaworld.

Re: Florida Map (Retextured OCT 3rd 08.)

Postby NightWolf on Sun Oct 05, 2008 10:02 pm

Well, I am here to say I have completed the basic parts of the XML file for my map right now. Tomorrow I am probably going to do some checking and potential error checking of my map. I spent a good 2 to 4 hours writing the file. I may need some help figuring out how to do the forest and everglades bonuses though. I will browse the forums looking for how to implement them, and also how to implement a bonus for the swamps too. Other bonuses will be looked into for the map, and I am still looking into more graphical changes for those who are wondering about that. I may work on more border changes soon to make this map compatible for a smaller map. (perhaps something around 650 px by 500 px, I don't know yet. I mean compatible by making some territories big enough to support Army Circles on a smaller map.) If you have any suggestions for gameplay additions/alterations mention it and I will take most anything into consideration. After all, this map idea isn't just for me, but possibly for everyone else if it goes through.

It's 11 PM here, and I've been working for a while. I think I will call it a night map-making wise.

Well you've got a draft... it is, as you say, terrible, but let's get you in the right place for now ;-)

 [Moved] to Drafts

On a side note, I wouldn't worry too much about the XML just yet - get your gameplay worked out, and then see what you can do about improving the graphics...

No offense, but I actually have the urge to vomit at these textures. I've never seen such a clash of bright colors coupled with strong textures.

Here's what I advise. Instead of wasting your times on textures and whatnot, get a simpler draft of the map up, with just solid colors, borders, and names. Then you can slowly tweak the graphics as you go. Since the game play should be pretty much set by the Main Foundry (since this is a classic map - I think), you can make it prettier then.

This map has been moved into retirement.

It would appear that development of this map has stalled, as there have not been any updates for over a month.

If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then after an update, one of the CAs will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system ;-)
