The difference between shooting a human and shooting a deer is one is a human and the other is a deer. Thats a great enough distinction that all others seem fairly insignificant. There is a difference between concerned about animal rights in respect of welfare and being vege/vegan or queueing up to chain yourself to the gates of your local medical research centre.

Either God designed me to be able to be carnivorous, or my ancestors evolved that way for good reason. Either way it's good enough for me.
Cruelty is another matter, and as a species we treat our food-providing animals (both those we eat and those we milk or take eggs from) very badly in most cases. But this is a different question.
