Damn! Fooking forgot about that one. Yeah DM, you pulled the dark horse out of the closet there - definitely best in history class, but no staying power - his insanity got the best of him in the end when his ego made him f*ck with the Russians too soon.

Nah, he wouldn't/didn't listen to his better qualified generals

He also lost to Wellington at Waterloo which he probably shouldn't have.

Which brings me to my choice. Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington.A master strategist, he knew how to defend as well as attack. Something that is lacking in many so called great war leaders.

Lord Horatio Nelson - not really the war leader but the Royal Navy at that time was the true implement of British policy and military influence. Courageous, inspirational and tactically a genius ( and didnt always do what he was told by people not at the 'front').

He was a great though. He couldn't use his usual tactics of marched forces and the land was too scarce, the russians abandoned moscow and then winter came. Other than that fiasco of a campaign, and the spanish campaign too, he was a master tactician. He turned a post-revolutionary French people for god's sake into the greatest army at the time. Sure he got a bit crazy and fucked up in Russia, Spain and Waterloo but he was a great.

Alexander was better though. If not for some unprotected buttsex
