Harper has done a lot for Canada in the last two years, none of it good. (eliminating our Peacekeepers is but one example), and he's just gained power. Not good. Oh, and there's no way I'm fleeing to US even if Barack gets elected. he may be the best choice, but that's from a US standpoint, not a Canadian one.

I imagine Barack is the best choice from many standpoints. I remember doing a powerpoint that touched on Canadian/American relations for a sociology/terrorism class: let's see what I can find...

Dude, I have been trying to figure that out for 2 elections now. There is no question that his Conservative government has mirrored the practices of republican governments in the US, and that he is not a very well-liked soul where I come from.
A Premier of one of the provinces here (a Liberal) actually ran a campaign of his own to eliminate the Conservative party from holding any seats in his province. He succeeded, but I don't think it will be to his benefit, as there will be no one in parliament to speak for NL in this government. In the Atlantic Provinces it will be like that always, as long as there is a conservative government, With the Notable exception of the Minister of Defence, who has held a seat since Christ's days.

But like him or not (and I am very far in the "or not' category), you gotta hand it to him, the man is a brilliant politician. Anyone who can't see that simple fact has been living under a rock for the past 6 years.

The man point to Harper's advantage is that he's successfully protrayed his main opponent, Stephane Dion, as a bumbling idiot. Stephen Harper does elections like any american would, but his opponents play it the nice, friendly, issue-oriented way. Mudslinging wins out.

Back in the day, before the rise of DishNetwork and DirecTV, before Comcast Digital...

Back when there were black boxes and one actually had a bit of choice in cable provider, I shared a house with a group of friends, and we subscribed to something... it wasn't Comcast. Maybe Cablevision, or TimeWarner cable, I don't remember now, I just know it wasn't Comcast.

Anyway, we got the Canadian tv station that gets broadcast in the USA (like BBC America). I really enjoyed watching the news broadcasts on that channel, same as I enjoy watching BBC World News. The outsider's perspective on the news of the USA, as well as reporting about a nation I don't live in was always both enlightening and awesome.

I can't seem to find that channel anymore.

Personally, I blame Canada.
