I'm torn, honestly. Being a Mariners fan, I really want Jamie Moyer to get a ring. I think he deserves it. But I also love the Rays' story. That, and the way they've run their organization these past few years has been great. Either way, I think it should be a great series.

I would agree that the Ray's have a better story and also I believe that overall they are the best team in baseball this year (really if they had played in any other division I think they would have had the best record) and thus deserve it.

Holy shit. We both made the same jump in tangential comedy, to that of racing, and posted at the exact same time, thus proving one was not copying the other.

Which is why I won't edit my post now, cause I wasn't copying your joke.

This might be the most awesome moment in all of CC forum history.

The Anaheim, California Angels of South Central - or whatever the hell the name is - had the best record because they played in a poor division. Tampa Bay played in the best division in baseball and still came out with 97 wins. And this coming from a Mariners fan. Not that record really means anything, as was proven by the Rockies last year.

I think the Rays will come out on top, but I think this series is going to seven games.

I agree with all of the above. Though I also thought that the Phillies-Dodgers would go to 7 and that the Rays and Red Soxs would have a more even series at this point.

Ortiz was banged up. As was Beckett. Lester pitched well, but fizzled in the end. Not really excuses, as I thought the Sox should have put up more of a fight, but there you have it.

I didn't really give the Dodgers a chance. They rode the Ramirez train as far as they could, but they only made the playoffs because of the horrible division they were in. One man can only take you so far. Sure, they've got some young talent, like Kemp and Loney, that did pretty well, and they should be good in that division for a few years, but that Phillies offense can be a juggernaut.

Well they made the playoffs because of a poor division and the epic collapse of the Diamondbacks. Still after man-handling the Cubs, I thought they were at least good enough to give the Phillies a fight.

Yeah, I can't explain what happened to the Cubs. I don't believe in all the hocus pocus nonsense of curses, but they really fell apart.

Hahaha... I saw that and laughed too. Not much actually makes me crack a smile on a forum...

Hell, we didn't even mean the same type of racing! Andretti is Formula 1, right?

Yeah the Cubs really blew it (much like the Mets in the regular season). I guess part of the reason I saw it going to 7 though was because I didn't think the Phillies were as good as they turned out to be.

how is Tampa Bay a better story?
They didnt even care about the Rays until this season.
Philadelphia is a real sports town.
Tampa Bay beat the Eagles in the 2002 NFC title
Tampa Bay beat the Flyers in the 2004 Eastern Conference finals. Its a joke that Tampa should beat a historic franchise like the Philadelphia Flyers on route to a STanley Cup in which the city could have cared less.

THis means so much more to Philadelphia than Tampa Bay.

iThe last Philly championship was the 1983 76ers sweeping the Lakes. That's 100 seasons if you count the seasons from all 4 teams.
That's the biggest story here.

By the way, I dont why anyone thought the Dodgers were going to beat the Phillies.
The Dodgers only have Manny.

The Phillies have 2 MVPS in Howard and Rollins while Utley is their best player.
Cole Hamels is the best starting pitcher to make the post-season and the Phils have the best bullpen in baseball. The Phillies have been a playoff contending team since 2001 so they've been a good team.

It's because they are the new Braves in the fact that they went from the worst team one year to the best the next. Regardless if the city doesn't care I think it means more to the nation as a whole as for Philadelphia. As for the Phillies, I don't really care as much about when the last time they won something is and i don't really like comparing two teams based on town and not sport.

gannable, you'll hear the Rays story played to death on ESPN and other media outlets. You're obviously biased towards Philly, but, you're right; Philadelphia getting a championship would be a great story.

the national media has always been biased against Philadelphia. Its probably because New York hates Philadelphia.

Put it this way if it were Boston, New York, or Chicago or any other major city like Philadelphia all you'd be hearing is how that city hasnt won a title since 1983.
Philadelphia is arguably the best sports town in the county (at least top 4 with Boston, New York, and chicago) it should be the main story that Philly has gone through 100 seasons combined in not winning a title.

Regarless I think things are changing - along with the Phillies the Flyers and the 76ers are on the cusp of having great young teams.

you understand this -

I'm 35. I was 10 in 1983 so i really didnt care about the Sixers winning in 1983.

Anyone around my age and younger has never really experience a Philly team winning a championship. And sports means more to Philadelphia than just about any other city.

People still havent gotten over things like the 1964 Phillies blowing a 4 game lead with about 7 games left to play or losing to the Celtics every year in the Conference Finals back in the 60's or blowing a 3 games to 1 against the Celtics in 1981 or losing to the Dodgers in the 1977 and 78 NLCS.
Personally, I havent gotten over seeing the Flyers lose the 1987 Finals to Edmonton in 1987 in 7 games. and getting humilated in 1997 by the Red Wings. Flyers losing the eastern conference finals in 89, 95, 2000, 2004, and 2008. The list really goes on and on. We only know disappointment.
The world series means so much more to Philadelphia than most people can imagine especially freaking Tampa Bay. If the Phillies win the world series it blow away any other celebration in recent memory.
