Does this have something to do with sam's picture thread?

I guess i should clarify, though I'm pretty sure you and the others did understand what I was saying. I was saying that they decided to make this thread because they saw sam's picture thread and decided to make something similar. Again I might be pointing out the obvious but I just had to say it.

As for the thread, I wholeheartedly approve of the idea.

I certainly got the idea in chat, but it's a good idea no matter the context of its origination.

Pretty well actually, teaching in Korea remains to be a successful enterprise. My classes later today are both good ones, the students in general are fantastic. Im a little under the weather at the moment, but that will do little to dissuade me from going to be beach/fireworks show out in Busan to visit a buddy with my quasi girlfriend.

Im also starting to pack on a few pounds, but such is the curse of being someone who cant sleep because there is something wrong on the internet.

However, i would be thrilled if one of my profs from last term would email me back with some pretty nerdish stuff that would be wonderful as far as long term academic mumbo jumbo. Alas, if today is thursday there he may not have had class today. Or i suppose i could spend a little more time doing actual research since i probably should know where to find what i want.

hmm...

a quick plus minus list

(+)
friendly people to foreigners
respect for the teachers
cheap taxis in the country
pretty good fishing
cheap food and drink
fun times to be had at the karaoke
children think i am someone famous on account of my foreignerness
my work schedule is amazing
there are a lot of decent cultural things to see including some cool temples and mountain sights
screen golf
neat technological stuff
the weather is good
the internet has movies
(-)
my korean is not so great
i dont work all that many hours
pizza is not so amazing
beer other than hite is questionable
sometimes its hard to get people to go to some of the more culturalish events
i dont screen golf that often
movies dont come out that often than i can read or understand
Im still a big nerd with unsolved questions about grad school
My diet has not improved
my stomach hurts

On the whole the pluses are routing the minuses.

Your last two minuses are barely even minuses. An argument could be made that they are, in fact, pluses.

Tonka, chat is confusing me so I'll ask you here....

How was the fishing the other night? What type of fishing was it in the end?

i probably could have even folded them into one more efficient plus-minus as the second is likely the cause of the first. But to be fair its a little on the early side here, and im still not taking any better care of myself. Its tough being 847. At least thats what i tell my kids, since knowing my age is marginally more important than knowing if im shacking up with someone which is much more important than learning english.

Fishing was actually pretty good. It was a work related venture so everyone had a pretty good time, though many of us did less catching of fish and more social interaction. I caught the same fish as everyone else caught which off of Mokpo, which actually at the moment escapes me and isnt on my friends photo page of facebook. Needless to say i did far more consuming than i did actual fishing. Basically we just pulled the boat out a little ways into the ocean and split off into two different groups. I know next to knowing about all the different types of seafood, but the fish was a sort of bluish silver if that helps.

So if I went over there I could potentially claim that I am an actor or a sports star?

overall that seems to be a pretty good list.

You could in all likelyhood. On our latest excursion we stopped in a museum of maritime history in Mokpo. With a somewhat scraggly beard and misshappen hair, i probably looked like i had come off of the mock pirate ship in the big hall. At the very least i was far more interesting than Korean history at the moment for most of the primary school children.

eh it wasnt really that big. Two floors two different wings on each floor with rather large rooms in them. There are a lot of smaller museums seemingly scattered throughout the countryside, but most of the ones that i have heard about or have seen they are not all that big. Still despite its relative lack of size it had a lot of interesting finds in there and a decent amount of the naval history of a country that i hadnt really learned all that much about (as my east asian history class perhaps necessarily focused on China). There were also quite a few things that dealt with recovering artifacts which was pretty neat in addition to the aforementioned large ship.

not something youd make a trip for, but probably something youd check out while you were there for an hour or so.
