Well, out of the whisky category, I will have to choose Lagavulin. It has a very distinct flavor that leaves a pleasant nutty-ness after it has washed over the tongue. The taste of the barrel is quite unlike any other Scotch that I have tried, however, at over a hundred dollars a bottle, I only reserved to drink it around holidays with close friends and family, along with roasted drunk duck that had been marinated in Lagavulin for a whole day. The aroma itself is warm and soothing and not at all unpleasant. The flavor is surprisingly very smooth and the fire only hits you with a bit of warmth in the belly. An excellent brand to warm yourself (and your family and friends) on a snowy holiday.



As for the whiskey category, I have to choose Jameson's as my all time go to favorite. And at only about twenty bucks a bottle, you shan't be disappointed. Jameson's fine character is very distinguished, and if I had my way, I would put it into the whisky category, but alas, it is Irish. Jameson's is definitely my choice when I go into a bar and want put a good flame to my belly. A tad bit of sweetness can be sensed, but not as sweet as the American bourbons. Jameson's is an excellent accompaniment with any type of red meat (steak, lamb, venison...) and the flavor is both pleasing and amazingly friendly. The very aroma of Jameson's makes me smile uncontrollably!



As for bourbon...I am not a particular fan, especially of Jack as it is too sweet for me. If I do drink Jack, it has to be on the rocks and let it sit for a bit. The dilution of the ice melting into the Jack takes down the sweetness for me and makes it a bit more pleasing to my particular pallet.

I guess I like Maker's Mark when it comes to bourbons...but always drink it straight or on the rocks to enjoy it. Never mix Scotch, whiskey, or bourbon with soda pop! If you must have soda pop...please drink it on the side, for heaven's sake!

I came in my pants just looking at that. Jack Daniels is the finest whiskey I've ever drunk, probably because I refuse to drink anything but it. It's so fucking awesome. I'm having trouble using English to describe how incredible Jack Daniels is.

The only proper way to drink JD is straight from the bottle. No glass, no mix. It is fantastic and is there for the express purpose of getting ureasonalbly smashed, beating the piss out of your best friend for saying he'd do your sister, blurting out that you did his sister and then waking up in the ditch he left you in, covered in piss and dew. Ahh good times.

For a nice drink I would have to go with Jonny Walker. It comes in a nice colored bottle and goes down smooth. Blue lable is of course the bottle of choice but red or black will do if your short on cash.

Anything from Islay in the Western Isles; Lagavulin, Ardberg, Bowmore. They all have a warm, smooth & peaty taste. Lagavulin is my favourite, but they're all damn good.

Jack Daniels (which is a "Tennessee Whiskey", not a Bourbon) has it's place on my shelf and I will admit to the occasional Jack & Coke after mowing the lawn, but I would not consider it in the same class as Single Malt Whiskey's. It is like comparing Corona to Newcastle Brown...distant relatives.

I second the Lagavulin, as I am a huge fan of the Islay whiskeys. Like drinking by the campfire!

Caol Isla is good & smooth but Laphroaig 15 is my all-time favorite.

It tastes of seaweed (mildly), and if you told someone I'm drinking something that was rather expensive per bottle and tastes like seaweed, they would think you were mad

My usual is Macallan 25 at first then the 18 second then the cask strength after. Depends on what trials are on the calander.

Balvenine Doublewood sometimes.
If as a guest at friends, usually Oban or Lag.

If I am feeling Irish, Tullamore Dew.

Now that it's fall I seem to be enjoying more Armagnacs and Cognacs. Sempelt XO, Pierre Ferrand, Hine XO, Remy XO, Kelt XO are the usual suspects.

I see Laphroaig all over the USA. Most of it being that 15. Too weak and vegetal for me.

If it has to be Bourbon then it's going to be Blantons or Knob Creek.

Also all the above depends on the cigars for the day.

This is a misconception, as a standard drink of beer/wine/liquor are equivalent.

In the US a standard drink is equal to 13.7 grams of pure alcohol or

* 12-ounces of beer.
* 8-ounces of malt liquor.
* 5-ounces of wine.
* 1.5-ounces or a "shot" of 80-proof distilled spirits or liquor (gin, rum, vodka, whiskey, etc).

So, in terms of alchohol intake, they are the same as you don't drink a "Pint of Whiskey" or drink a "Shot of Wine".

Sure, it is all about quantity. I was just pointing out that Whiskey is no "harder" than beer proportionately. If someone thinks that by drinking four beers instead whiskey they are somehow drinking less alchohol, they are mistaken.

well Khaz if you ever make it to my house you can open the bottle of Balvenie 30 that was given to me a few years ago and I never touched the stuff lol ... I have some of the cheaper stuff too, but i'm not a huge fan .... I'm more of a gin (I think my favorite has got to be Bombay Sapphire) and tequila guy .... been drinking a lot of this Patron stuff .... mmmmm i like ...
