Game Foe

Postby maxatstuy on Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:01 pm

Concise description:
  • A distinction when foeing someone that enables you to block someone from playing a game without necessarily blocking their chat

Specifics:
  • A separate foe button for chat and for games
  • Game foe can prevent someone from joining your games
  • Chat foe can block their comments
  • The foe that exists already can be left alone and fully ignores someone; and the game and chat foe can be a choice lifted after putting someone on foe so that you can still read their posts or their game chat while not having to worry about them joining your games
  • When placing a mod on foe, the chat foe will automatically be disabled but it would still allow you to prevent them from joining your games

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • There is no reason why someones posts, or comments should be blocked if you only want to avoid playing the person
  • We are currently unable to foe mods because it is important that we read their warnings and comments, this can prevent them from feeling awkward about joining games where they believe that they are unwelcome
  • Some people are truly obnoxious, so while their chat may not be appreciated, their presence in a game might not be resented

excellent distinction. There are many who I would love to beat senseless on the
game board and yet would rather avoid their inane chattering about bad dice and @#$ you you lucky blah blah blah...

In fact these are the people i WANT to beat the most in game.

To have the option of just blocking their chat is quite nice.

I think if this were to be divided, the simplest way would be Forum Foe vs Game Foe (and of course the option of both, if preferred)

I do not think that foe-ing people from writing in game chat yet still being able to play with them is necessarily smart because I feel that has potential to have others bring up C&A threads about secret alliances, when in fact, they just couldn't read their chat! I figure, if you're in a game with someone, you can deal with reading their chat (or you could simply ignore it, if playing games with them means so much to you :P) Now making it unable for them to comment in game chats of your OTHER games which they are not in, I mean that'd be nice, but I really don't see this happening. Too complicated and too much trouble for the limited perks.

I think if this were to be implemented it would be a two way street. You could ignore players from games AND forums, just games, or just forums. I really feel this whole 'game chat foe' is more trouble than what it's worth, but the separate foes (games/forums) idea has potential.

The issue which you brought up is not seen as an issue currently where there is potentially the same risks. When you foe someone, you can still join their games and the chat is blocked so that you dont have to read why your opponent is saying. That creates the same fears as the one which you are mentioning, and even with that possibility hasnt posed a problem, to the best of my knowledge. Placing someone on foe is your own decision and the risks which can occur is clearly the responsibility of the person who made that decision. With that said, a lot of the reason why someone foes another has to do with what they say in game chat, the area which trash talking and derogatory comments are made, not in the forum, so it is the game chat which they want to block.

Foe Increments?

Postby danryan on Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:42 pm

New Foe Options:
  • Forum Ignore
  • Game Ignore

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • There are members with whom you don't mind chatting or reading posts, but with whom you'd rather not play.
  • A game block only would prevent them from joining your game, but you could still read their posts, wall posts, etc.

A great idea. I like it a lot for precisely the reasons you state.

However, before this is implemented, lackattack should fix the fact that YOU CAN JOIN GAMES OF SOMEONE WHOM YOU HAVE FOED, which has been on his to-do list for more than three years now.

Great idea! 8-)
Most of the people on my foe list are users with avatars I don't want to see, but I wouldn't mind playing with them.

No but some will and seeing how is pretty heavy into it, looks like does for that reason.

I believe you seriously misunderstood my statement. As a Christian, he will be particularly offended by certain pictures and not be interested in looking at them. I didn't mean it as a put-down, I meant it as an explanation for why he would foe someone based on the avatar.

(Seemed apparent enough to me that I didn't consider explaining it...)

I hope that has been cleared up. Let's get this back on topic :)

Personally I like the idea, though I haven't foed anyone for what they've posted in the forums, so it would only affect me one-way. I wonder if this would be the case for many others?
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

Another option for you:
Under control panel, you can turn off the option to show avatars and signatures.

[Foe] Game, Forum, and Chat Foes

Postby king sam on Mon May 03, 2010 1:23 pm

Foe Options:
  • Currently you run across a player that annoys you in the game, in chat or in the forums and you can choose to Foe them and eliminate the necessity to see their posts, see their game chat or have them join a game with you. The proposition here is that you can mitigate what areas you wish to ignore the player on. Also the current Foe system allows users that you have on Foe to not join a game that you are already in, but it doesnt let you know if your joining a game with someone you have Foed. I dont even know if a script can be made to allow you to manipulate the Foe system to choose what areas of the site you wish to ignore a player on but figured it was worth the suggestion.

Specifics:
  • Instead of just having a text box for a reminder of why you are Foe'ing someone you would have these options:
    • Foe games involving this player
    • Foe forum posts involving this player
    • Foe game chat involving this player
  • Add an additional measure to not allow you to join games with players that are on your Foe system, or some kind of pop up alert to let you know you are about to join a game that has someone in it that is on your current Foe list

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Just a creature feature

i definitely agree that this whole foe list thing could be tweaked. i'd actually like to see it go away altogether, but at least this will help people to use it more sensibly.

Yep I support this.

I hardly foe anyone - has to be extreme and I don't do it for gameplay except for suiciders/deadbeats - I don't want to close people out of games and I don't want to stop playing people just because they are rude, but I would like the option to ignore them in game chat and still play them.
