North Carolina (first draft)

Postby Shurr on Mon Jan 26, 2009 2:57 am

I have thought about this idea for awhile now, and only recently had the time to start work on it.

I spent about 3 hours editing the outline of the state to look good.

I gave a sample of how i see the territories working out in the picutre, along with how i want the sports teams to work(anyone else know of some sports teams I might include?)

I am thinking about giving each colored region a major city like I did Raliegh

Sports teams and Battle ships would start with 5 neutral armys, Major citys with 4, and each regular territory with 3.

edit: the orange dots are basketballs representing UNC Tarheels, Duke, and the NBA's Bobcats, the football is for the Panthers.

I am pretty good in Gimp, so I wont really have too much trouble there, however I am pretty fuzzy on XML, so if someone would like to hop on board and help me and teach me XML Id e welcome to that.

Hmm....
Firstly welcome to the foundry Shurr. Always nice to see fresh fish in here with a passion for creating a map. I'm a neighbor of yours down in South Carolina, in fact I created the Charleston, SC map. Let me warn you though - State maps really do not work well. There's been a lot of attempts of them, and almost all fail. Unless the graphics are very well done, you just will not get people interested.

I'm glad your skilled in gimp, although your first draft looks like paint? 3 hours editing? Really? As much as the regional sports teams are popular around us, world wide they don't mean jack. You're going to have to really work at this if you want it to be quenched. I'll help when I can with feedback.

So first - are you looking for gameplay disscusions? If so, you need to give us something a little more refined. Draw out all your territory borders the way you envision them. Graphics can come later, gameplay is a good place to start.

Good Luck

The map is so small I can not even make it out, I hate the state but the idea is ok, I can't make out a theme, how will you get wide spread interest...

i will basically echo what Rj had to say. a state is hard to get interest in. think about how many there are now as playable maps... i think that would be approximately 0, but i'm not sure. All i'm saying is that you could do better by maybe incorporating other states to make a whole region such as atlantic coast states or something...

thank you for finding the one map that is a state. and thank you for helping me make my point. the reason that map made it was because it had a theme that was interesting and allowed for interesting gameplay. a state by itself is not that amusing. in fact, the Texan Wars map that owen is referring to actually does include some of mexico, although those territories are represented by cannons...

i don't understand what math has to do with it though owen, i said "i think that would be approximately 0, but i'm not sure." so that means, its a pretty damn low number, and i wasn't sure. the asian kid is not amused and hopes the black jesus will stop taking people's words out of context when trying to make them look bad.

[Moved]

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the CAs will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)
