Escape the Island ; Image ready !

Postby ManBungalow on Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:28 pm

ManBungalow presents....

Escape the Island !!

The idea is to escape the island ( ) by holding the Escape point, a wood source and a fresh water source.
  • I think that the escape point, the settlements and maybe the fresh water sources should have an automatic neutral drop of several armies.

Help please !
  • I need insiration as for naming those purple circles - I don't really want to wind up calling them "1", "2", "3" etc...
  • I think that this need more regions; otherwise it will end up being just "eliminate your opponent" instead of actual escape - where can I fit these in ?? Do I need to make those circles smaller or make the whole map bigger ? Should I expand the island to include more cirles or remove some of that woodland ?
  • Any other thoughts ?

To-do
  • Drop some numbers onto some regions to see how big they are and how the numbers show up against the colours
  • Add the rest of the names
  • Improve that oasis :x
  • Sort out the region count
  • Draw some better fish ;)

hmmmm if your calling the purples the predator regions then each one could be named for a different predatory animal, i.e. crocodile, panther, bee swarm( while not predatory they sure aren't fun  ), killer apes.....etc..etc..

The idea isn't bad, but needs a lot more work to balance it out...

At the moment, with only 30(ish?) territories, it is going to be much easier to eliminate your opponents than to go for the objective.

Your current image is above the size limit for the large map (the limits are 840x800px for the large, 630x600 for the small), and the gameplay is very linear - there are lots of bottlenecks and dead-ends, that make things awkward. There is not a huuge colour differentiation between the different types of territory, and I think there is just too much going on for a small map.

If you were to double the number of territories on the map, and increase connectivity, you would be able to better balance out the objective, which would make for a better map idea ;-)

i'd like bigger territories rather than just dots for each and a more different kinds of territories.

Why is there an oasis in the middle of the island?

"In geography, an oasis is an isolated area of vegetation in a desert..."

An island covered with vegetation and forests and containing a river doesn't have an Oasis.

You could call it "Freshwater Spring" perhaps?

If you do something like this, I would make it objective or have starting nuetrals set on certain places. I hate the colors you are using but I know it is still a idea. I would increase the size and make everyone start at their own settlement. Go look at Fuedal War and think abo0ut that...

that would require way more territories, or else this is gonna turn into a 1vs1 only map

I'm working on a major update in which I have scrapped most of the current features whilst retaining the gameplay style. I'm including lots more regions and trying to spread them out more evenly (create less bottlenecks).
I'm working on an 840 by 800 px canvas now and I hope to make the whole think look more three dimensional :)

This should be with you soon.

Thanks for your help !

EDIT - 500th post :D
Sometimes you have to do it because everyone else does it.

I was wondering about that when I made the original. I would like to try and make the regions themselves more interesting. Most of the current maps have circles within areas, whilst some (such as Midkemil) have regions represented as circles in themselves. The most interesting regions, in my opinion, are the railway stations. I can't see my island having railway stations  so I'm trying to work out a different way of showing them...

It is something of a desert island, no matter how big the forests ;)

I should change its name though.

Thanks!

I agree that the regions need to be made different :)

This may move towards a Feudal War style map ultimately.
