So many concerns:
  1. Maps need to be playable for 2-8 players games
  2. Can't use MS Paint
  3. Can't read the numbers
  4. Why do you have two pictures?
  5. Graphics are, well, a severe eyesore — "borders" if you can call them that are huge, blurry, and bright; the background looks horrible …
  6. The font is way out of place
Look, sorry to be so straightforward and annoying about this, but the idea is pretty horrible, and I doubt you will get any support on this. The Doodle Earth map is very unique, and unless you can perfect the graphics I don't think that there should be much else like it.

this resembles, nothing of doodle earth. it is just a bunch of cirlces drawn over a space background.

Honestly, I agree with everything the.killing.44 said.

If you are going to call it 'doodle ______', its going to have to actually look doodle-like.
Looking like MS paint does not count as looking like a doodle.
Doodle actually had really good graphics and fit the 'doodle' idea really well. You're going to have a mountain of work ahead of you if you keep at this.

And no, I doubt you'll be able to get the original doodle texture. You'll probably have to figure it out for yourself.

I suggest you:
1. learn how to use GIMP or photoshop.
2. practice that a lot, until you're good at making things.
3. Try another map idea that isn't "doodle _____"

1. He is right. Go read the official posts about making maps.
2. I can tell you are not using it, but I don't think it looks much better than if you had used it.
3. -
4. The things you posted were the same size.
5. -

And as for that quote. Please note that it was said before you posted the draft.

Also, if you put people on ignore every time they do that, then you are never going to leave the drafting room since your map won't be improving.

I have reworded all my comment so you might understand them better.

1. .44 is right that a map needs to be playable for 2-8 players
2. I ca tell you are probably using photoshop, but the graphics still need a lot of improvement

4. Why do you have 2 of the exact same pictures?

The quote from john9blue was said before you posted the draft, so you can't use it in your defense.

You can ignore that statement about foeing people.

no, he's right. It has to be open to all gametypes unless you manage to get special permission for it (which has been limited to conquest maps in the past)
  2. Can't use MS Paint
    Not using it
You're going to have to substantially improve what you've got there to get out of Drafts.
  3. Can't read the numbers

The idea is great...the map isnt great...
Scrap the map, and start over. I really dont see any potential in what you have right now.

If you can make a small map of space, maybe like a pen+looseleaf paper during school or something...this could be awesome. Aliens, planets, rocketships, funny stuff.

New version is set up like this

Top left corner we got the aliens, then below that we got three planets divided up and they look awesome. Then there is a asteroid belt and a belt of yellow stars, then the sun and some flying saucers above that.
Anything else we need?

The beauty of doodle earth - is that it mimics and simplifies the Classic map...

This doesn't mimic the space map.

Good idea. There is a market for these small maps - Doodle Earth and Luxembourg are very popular for ass games and the like. :)

NO, that's been done...and Classic is much more popular than the Space map! Just do your own doodle of space, dont just make a smaller version of a different map!

Postby oaktown on Mon Feb 16, 2009 12:10 pm

I don't think that every map we make around here needs to be playable by 8 players. here's the exact quote...

Game type flexibility. The map should support various game types and not be designed with specific/limited game settings in mind (standard, assassin, fog of war, 2 players, etc.).

The intent of this rule was to make mapmakers aware that users will not always start a game with the exact settings that the mapmaker intended. For instance, you shouldn't make a map that will only be fun to play in the Fog, because 99% of users will not know this and will start sunny games. And don't create a map that will be a guaranteed deadlock if played on any setting other than escalating cards.

Now, player limits are another thing - a four-player map that only has four start positions and everything else is neutral can't be started by six players, so this really isn't an issue. So while I'm certainly not the last word in what maps CC will accept, I would personally urge the admins to support maps set up specifically for fewer players.

That said, this map has a long way to go.

This is missing all the charm and wit of the Doodle Earth map. It's a cheap imitation at best. This map should not be made unless it is made correctly - it needs the unique and chaotic flair that makes Doodle Earth so awesome.
