Keep in mind that much of the popularity of the St Pat's map can be attributed to the facts that (1) it was only up for 48 hours, (2) that freemiums got unlimited games on it, and (3) it was St. Patrick's Day!

I'm in a dozen or so games on the map myself, and I'm probably going to lose 300 points altogether - if the map stayed up, I'd never play it again.
I've already seen two games end crazy early - one in round 2, one in round 3 - and since I got hell dice in the first round of each game there was absolutely nothing I could do. A big early deployment might make things better, or it might just make it that much more frequent that somebody could march all the way in to the objective on the first round.
What would solve the problem is some form of bombardment of the center space. Perhaps the connecting arm spaces such as X7 could be some sort of artillery that could bombard, but not capture, the objective space? That way players would have an alternative method of hitting the guy who slides in there early and parks a single army there that nobody can reach.
