Re: "Skip turn" button

Well a skip turn button that could be used ahead of time might be useful. You click it, and when your turn comes up, it skips you. That way if you know you won't be there for your turn, or you want to skip your turn for strategic reasons *ugh* we won't have to wait 24 hours for that. We could even allow this for a couple turns a ahead of time (if your going to be gone for a few days)

This may or may not carry the same consequences as the 24 hour skip (effecting percentage of turns played in profile, dropped from game if you do this 3 times in a row) It would probably be good either way.

If it did carry the same consequences, it seems likely that there would be no drawbacks of any sort to it.

If it didn't, then maybe people would actually use it a bit, saving us 24 hour waits more. I don't really imagine much drawbacks if it didn't either. Yes people could use it to launch surprise attacks, but that might be interesting.

I think this would receive the same type of abuse as the forfeit game button...

If they want to do that, they can already. They just let their turn go for 24 hours. This wouldn't be any different, except we don't have to wait 24 hours

The person skipping their turn hardly cares if we have to wait 24 hours. Unless it's a emergency or something out of the skipers control, then they wouldn't have a choice anyway, this would give them a choice

If they are going to skip a turn anyway, either because they won't be there or because they want to do it for "strategic reasons" they will just skip there turn with a 24 hour wait. This way we don't have to wait 24 hours for them.

We could increase the in game punishment against them. Maybe any player who would normally only get 3 troop during there turn and skips their turn(via the button or waiting), only builds up 2 troop to place during their next turn.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not exactly suggesting we do that. I am just saying if people want to be for sure that noone is abusing it. But since they can do it anyway now any abuse that can be used with it, will already be happening. This just saves us the 24 hour wait.

Or are some of you suggesting it is actually fun/good to have to wait 24 hours for someones turn to pass?!?

Ok I have given it more thought. If you mean someone setting up a dummy account, then skipping turns on it to win against it, I suppose that would be a remote possibility. But they would have to be a multi, which is usually detectable(maybe not always) and that much skipping could be flagged in the system automatically if done.

Also, if someone loses a game from skipping, the winner could not get the points from the loser. Even though the loser, would still lose points.

That way, that abuse should be pointless and next to impossible to do without trouble anyway. Any other kind of abused can easily be done already by waiting out the 24, like I said before.

I actually like this idea... if players looking for the deferred armies would actually us it and then waffles wouldn't have to wait 24 hours to get pissed off at them. My tendency is to attack players who miss turns... whenever possible.

At least the skipped turn tactic is not as ominous as it once was when a player received the "missed turn multiplier" to deploy at the start of their turn. Since that change was implimented I haven't seen intentionally missed turns nearly as much as before. This tactic us used to avoid "getting spoils" in an escalating game instead of bothering to even deploy armies.

Who knows, maybe klobber would accidently click this button too
and we can all have a good chuckle.

Neither being premium nor playing many games will make games move faster or make deadbeats disappear though.

Yeez guys. Look to the left for your Personal Menu and click on Game Settings and there you have tick boxes for "Notify me" of my turn (casual), of my opening turn (casual) or of game start (speed) and a few other useful settings.

I like this thought, with the addition of no points awarded for Round One deadbeats
to deter point hor's from covert farming activities.

Woodruff and ender... I do not receive email messages that it's my turn beyond the initial announcement that the game has started. Since the Active Games List sequencially places my waiting turns at the top, I find it redundant and unneccessary to fill my inbox with notices.

Oh, no argument. I understand that you can SET it that way. My understanding of what was being said was that it WASN'T that way, which simply isn't true.

Yes, I know. I wasn't complaining...I choose to have it set that way.

Surrender [Previously Rejected]

Postby Colemanus on Thu May 07, 2009 11:56 am

there should be an option for people to quit so they dont have to waste time losing.
This also would slow down people walking away from games.

Ahoy Colemanus,

Your suggestion of a Surrender Button comes up from time to time. Back in the very early days of Conquer Club, we had one, but after abuse (and general inclination towards poor sportsmanship), it was removed, and we've been without one ever since. I don't forsee a Surrender Button coming back in the near the future either. As we say on the FAQ, there are two ways to finish a game. Winning and Losing---and we suggest Winning. ;)

perhaps if the button gave the other players the option to kick out the player early. it would have to be a majority rule though. for example. in an 8 player game. if player 2 decided that playing on would be wasteing time, he could press the "propose surrendur" button. on the turns of the other players, they would have the option of selecting yes or no to his surrendur. if it turned out with the majority saying yes, the player would be auto kicked, and it would count as a loss, and he would lose the points. if majority said no, he would have to stay and live out the punishment
Woop Woop, i love conquer club, why'd i leave for a year?

SURRENDERING

Postby cue_daddy06 on Mon May 11, 2009 3:06 am

How about a 'white flag' button? It's understandable that players get disheartened and want to quit. Why make them waste their time and suffer? A 'white flag' button would also free the winning player to move on to another game.

PS: I suggest a white flag button. In case it is pressed accidentally maybe a another prompt screen, just to make sure.

Seems I didn't do it as the page that is auto generated by the search box isn't possible to link to. ](*,)

Anyway the search bix is right besides the "new topic" button, shouldn't be too hard to find. :D

a surrender botton

Postby campbell555 on Sat May 23, 2009 10:32 pm

This button would allow someone to quit a game he or she could not win or compete in. They would still lose points at the end of the game, but this way the game would continue faster. The old way would make the player wait around till the timer runs out, for 3 rounds. This way the game move ahead and the other player don't have to wait for the timer to run out or 3 rounds. Making the game faster and less time lose.

Resign Button

Postby brett2000 on Thu Jun 04, 2009 6:08 am

I agree, even as a relative newbie, I have been involved inspeed games that have lasted in excess of 4 hours!

Also in regards to speed games where I start a game at 8.00pm UK time (Expecting an 11.00 finish at the latest) and they go on the players in other time zones may not need to go to bed at the same time!

I think that the option to nominate for a draw should only come into play after say turn 40 or 3 hours of play and be a position where all players involved lose no points (This would avoid abuse) and must be a unanimous decision from the remainng players within the game.
