Set up a CRON process that runs once per week or month. The process totals the points on the scoreboard, totals the players, and the above/below 1000 points gets added/subtracted from every current players score.

It's a simple solution, requires zero maintenance, and would take maybe 30 minutes to code. It is automated, accurate, and unbiased.

So players could lose or attain rank from a weekly cron job? That's not going to go over well if you work hard to be a general then from cron job comes and steals 5 points, busting you back to a lower rank.

Change the score formula to loser/winner*20 - 1, but subtract the same amount of points from the losers.

Hey... I've suggested this before...

It's just like the house rake in poker... or better still, it's the penny ante...

In any case... seems simple to me and I LIKE IT! =D>

Now for the pics....
Instead of trying to kill 2 birds with one stone,
I think you're saying that ONE Rock in hand is better than 2 birds on a wire

No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats

Not perfect, but it would be a start.

This is the only "solution" I see being a good option tbh.

Absolutely. Cut off the problem at it's source.

Nah, don't believe in changing an old policy on that, see:

http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3057

Besides, let's wait and see whether point inflation indeed is a problem or not (i.e. in a few days when the promised stats are released).

Maybe I'm missing the correlation, but that link is to the announcement of the introduction of terminator games.

He's talking about this part...
Deadbeats Lose Points:
Sometimes people don't like the way the game was initialized and decide to go deadbeat on purpose to avoid playing the game. While working on a way to discourage deadbeating, I began to reconsider my decision to take deadbeats out of the points. Besides "strategic deadbeating" it caused other problems - confusion between auto-kick and the deadbeat/points rule and players being robbed of points after winning the game in round two. So, I scrapped the entire deadbeat/points rule. Everyone in the game will now gain or lose points whether they play or not.

But he's missed out on noticing that you and I are talking only about New Recruits.

Cue the argument "New Recruits will deabeat on purpose"

Hello MASSIVE deflation! The collapse of the scoring system.

Conquer Club members are initially given a score of 1000. At the end of each game, the winner takes points away from each loser. The points to be awarded is calculated as (loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent.

ZOMG ITS THE DREADED DIVIDE BY ZERO ERROR

Nah. I noticed that distinction. However, it seems arcane to mess up the straight-forward point system with one, single exception IMO. New recruits or not, deadbeats looses (and should loose) points.
