Then we can go straight to the banning and avoid all this messy drama.

Yes, so much easier to stifle dissent, isn't it?

all I see is blah blah blah..... When you have something interesting to add... post again.. Really CC in general is not run as well as it could be. This site could be a mega cash cow with what it has given the right people behind it. Not saying Lack is not doing a good job, but things could be ramped up even more.

You seem to take as a given that the more money a web site makes, the better it is. Unless the site is in danger of collapse, I don't see how making more money would necessarily make the site better for me. Sure, it might be reinvested to improve performance, but I suspect the bottleneck of my medium speed link would keep me from seeing any real improvements.

Are they stupid? I would say almost certainly not...I would! (just to stick with the yoda theme)

CC could well be a mega cash cow. IMO the best way would be to allow gambling on some games. 1000 games with odds set allowing those of us with a gambling disposition to test our knowledge of the players and styles of CC. Cut of the profits to the player/team that wins as well.

A six man singles games pre or post drop betting would be very lucrative indeed for CC, as long as their bookies really knew their stuff.

Family friendly site vs reaping the benefits of the world-wide on-line gambling addiction - I know what I would do!!!

Only real way to make mega bucks here is to add advertisement. Then we would have to make a greasemonkey script to block the ads. Then they would have to embed the ads into the games. Then we would have to get map overlays that hide the ads. Then they would have to block map overlays.

In the end, they would spend more money trying to get us to look at the ads than the increase in revenue could justify, and our principle game would be beating the ads to death.

Real improvements do not mean your internet speed. It could be in many forms such as...

More players, which would equal more money

then you can hire some more help to deal with issues, and get some of those to do list items done. Some are as old as 2006 and have yet to be done. If you had work on your desk still from 2006, chances are your company is either A) gonna fail or B) you will be fired
Not only can you hire people to help, but you could spend the extra money on other things such as real ads, or whatever was deemed needed to help this site grow. While word of mouth is good and all, we all know there are better ways about getting more people here and faster. Heck even free ways to drive more people to this site.

Once you realise that CC is effectively a one-turtle show, then the frustration at the lack of progress becomes more understandable, if not more bearable.

If I was running a website that provided me with a tidy income, then perhaps I'd be content to keep it ticking over??

It's a matter of ambition, desire and nous - lack is just one hero in a half-shell - more could be done with four turtles at the helm, but then the pizza would have to be split four ways :?

True, true, there are a plethora of means to make more money from the site... my proposal is that all members pay CC per turtle metaphor instead of by annual subscription.

If this new method is not put into operation immediately i can only assume that our experience has tort-us nothing!

The only way to save CC is with rampant spyware and trojans for a rented bot-net.

Only then we will realize our dream to play games on a cash cow.

And the inevitable rebranding of "Cow Club" - although that url has been taken. We may have to settle for "Conquer Cow".

Actually "Is CC stupid?" is grammatically correct providing you are thinking of CC the concept rather than the organisation. Thus you could paraphrase "Is the idea of Conquer Club stupid?"

Of course not stupid.

That is just the point. Lack has been a 1 man wrecking crew for so long he is not willing to let anybody else help in that regard. While he has a good volunteer team, he could use some help in the coding side of things. We all know this is a pipe dream as lack has a death grip on that code. Just like in every business, it usually starts out small and grows with time. With the growth comes more people needed to keep it running and help things progress along. I am sure there are quite a few people here who would be willing to help in the code section of things. If people saw some progress in the Suggestions / Bugs area they might post even more.

One of the most liked mods ever was Wicked, not because she was any better than other mods, but she made herself more available to common players. People like to interact with a real live person, rather than just a PM from some admin or mod, which seems distant. While she still gave out the rulings, she made many people feel she was just one of the players on this site, rather than someone who was ruler supreme. Thus when she was banned, she had an uproar over her banning. And I do think after what she said, she had it coming. Not to say many of us do not miss the work she did.

The whole point is while this site has grown probably larger than lack ever imaged it would in this short of time. Now that it has he is reaping the rewards from it. With that should come more time off from it should he choose. The flip side is means less work getting done on it. This is where the volunteers could step in and help. Which is why in my business I own, I have a manager open the shop for us. After 30 years in business I and my father am past the point of opening the shop daily.

It is interesting to see how far Conquer Club has come from when Lack launched it in January 2006. We've come leaps and bounds---and Conquer Club has prospered, quite dramatically really. This has allowed Lack to even engage in other ventures, with the hopes of improving CC via those other ventures.

I look forward to the day that Lack can hire a dedicated coder to work with him on projects---it'll be a tremendous day indeed! Lack's staff has slowly increased over time---Multi Hunters, Staff Support like King Achilles, and the splitting of the Community Manager job into two positions. I certainly hope one of the next positions is a coder. :)

I certainly hope one of the new positions is Director of Rick Rolls.

Also, I hereby nominate myself for this position.

I congratulate you on your business success. Honestly, no sarcasm intended. However, think back to when you hired on this manager, and first had him opening the shop. There had to have been a lot of stress during the changeover time, mental if nothing else. Trusting someone else to not only do what you'd been doing for years... but do it reliably, and in tune with your ideals...

Change in any organization is a hard thing to do. Lack, while perhaps not totally happy with how things are progressing, is apparently at least satisfied with them. Offering insights in the first place was certainly intended as a kindness by D-... when Lack chose not to take the advice or respond, that should have been it. Advice freely given is always free to NOT be accepted.

At that point, we come to this thread. This site IS Lack's, for better or for worse. Debate over whether the business model is optimal, and how to move it to that point, is one thing. I believe accusing CC management of stupidity, and providing the evidence of such as "they won't listen to me", is just plain damn rude.

My question is, as a business owner myself....

Would you listen to the advice that was from someone who on a public forum insinuated stupidity, and with such arrogance as to be laughable.

Your business, your choice, but I sure hope CC arent stupid enough to listen to unsolicited business advices from easily disgruntled ...business "professionals"

I sure bet your "blue chip" managers would be impressed with this post. Id say the govt, but I suppose they actually would.
