If anyone does seriously want to use some kind of filter program on the n-word, I usually like to substitute "cousin" for the n-word. Not that I think the two words are synonymous, but rather that "cousin" is two syllables, and can vaguely mean what the n-word is often meant to convey when used in a hip hop song.

See, since I'm white, I can't really drop the n-word whenever I feel like it, but sometimes I like to drop rhymes with my friends who are into hip hop, and many of them can bandy about the n-word, because, well, you know..

So I say cousin instead if I'm doing karaoke to a well known song in which the n-word is spoken. It doesn't much detract from the experience, and most of my black friends seem to appreciate the practice.

If Conquer Club is considering using one of those filters to block it's use from the boards, I'd recommend setting it up to automatically change it to "cousin", rather than using asterisks to block some of the letters. That way, the intended meaning, when used to insult, doesn't even get communicated. Plus, we can still have academic discussions concerning or involving the word, since everyone knows what "n-word" refers to. So we could just eliminate the word from our possible lexicon all together.

Say a user commits a "major" and/or "severe" offense and receives a warning because of it.

If said user proceeds to be a total jackass, but under terms of a "minor" offense as opposed to his previous outbursts.

Will this user receive a second warning, this one for a minor infraction?

Will this user be punished immediately?

If so, which direction does it move in?

Theoretically, their course of actions has already placed them in the major/severe category, yet their second offense brings them back to tier one. However, the person is clearly incompetent and incapable of following simple guidelines- so does this keep them in the severe offense realm or lower them to only a minor offense?

No, I'm not recognizing a problem; I still disagree with having to have different procedures for different forum violations. I stated my case privately to the other mods, and some things were adjusted (but not just because of me). But now that the new guidelines are in place, it's my role as Global Moderator to carry out and enforce those rules, regardless of personal views. I can disagree with what I'm doing while doing it, but if it's in the rules, I need to do it.

This is where the major of theme of community guidelines would come into play I think---Past History of Types of Offenses + Intent.

These are two things the user can't escape.

I hate that. If black people get so offended by the n-word, then they need to stop perpetuating it by saying it themselves. You don't see an uproar over "cracker" because we don't go around using it (with exceptions, of course).

While I prefer to use the term black, it is not always good for all people. Different people like to be called different things. Incidentally, I think it was clear that 4myGod was very specifically talking about people of African ancestry living in the USA, not all black people everywhere. He was not referring to West Indians, Guyanese, Jamaicans, Africans or other black people around the world.

Just to respond. Different things bother different people, some people don't like being called black, others don't like being called African Americans I guess. I am not trying to offend any of them and if someone asked for me to refer to them as something else, including their name I would.
