Cashing Bonus after eliminating player [answered]

How come I can cash in a bonus mid-turn (after eliminating a player and taking their cards) sometimes, and other times I can't. Does it matter if they are all one color or mixed? What's the deal? Thanks

you can only mid-cash if you have 5 or more cards, any less and you have to wait until the next turn
