Election of CC Player Ombudsman

Postby saxitoxin on Fri Jul 17, 2009 9:04 pm

ACHTUNG CC users. In order to engender a greater sense of community and democratic action, I have been asked by many CC players to manage the election of a player ombudsman to represent the desires of the player community to the mods. The player ombudsman will have the mandate of the player community and the sanction of democratic legitimacy to speak on behalf of all CC players to management.

If you would like to run, or would like to nominate someone, please post names in this thread. Once all nominations have been received an election will be held and a winner selected via a modified Schulze-STV tabulation method.*

*In this method, ballots will be assigned to one of the candidates in (A1,A2,...,AS). However, a ballot may only be assigned to An, if the voter prefers An to B. This means that ballots which prefer B to all the candidates in (A1,A2,...,AS) will remain unassigned. The ballots are assigned such the ballots held by the candidate with the smallest number of ballots is maximised.

The number of votes in favour of the candidate that (A1,A2,...,AS) beats (A2,...,AS,B) is equal to the number of ballots held by the candidate with the fewest number of ballots.

To determine the result of the comparison, the reverse comparison will also be performed. This will give the number of votes against the candidate that (A1,A2,...,AS) beats (A2,...,AS,B), i.e. the number of votes in favour of the proposal that (A2,...,AS,B) beats (A1,A2,...,AS). A new ombudsman will then be declared elected. All necessary calculations will be performed by me, as elections manager. I will also certify the results. Nominations will close at such time as the elections manager determines a sufficient quantity of candidates have been nominated.

note - historically problematic players (HPP) will not be eligible to stand for election

I nominate myself, Saxitoxin.

It would be impossible to channel the true desires of all into a single representative. many many thousands represented by a single voice. Unrealistic at best. If the true idea is for true representation I would suggest a congress with individuals from every country and clan. But it unrealistic to represent ALL players with one voice. Too many different views as you and I know. BTW. C C is a business and we are it's customers. They own it and should have complete say so. If I may add they are VERY liberal with there policies and some of our actions. Yours, mine and others. We have voices as individuals/CUSTOMERS and I for one will not willingly relinquish my voice to another for a GAME that I PAY to PLAY.

i suggested this a long time ago, but in the proper forum... and i highly doubt that prominent members of the CC forum community turned to a member that has been here a little over a month and has a staggering 151 posts, to find an Ombudsman...-0

we have been unequivocal in our support of the mods and will not entertain the hijacking of this democratic election by anti-mod bad seeds; it is the expectation of the community that the ombudsman will support and provide democratic legitimacy to the mods in their decisions to surgically remove problem users

who is this we? and again, what do you truly know about a community that you have been a member of for a month? again, i doubt anyone has turned to you to help with the election of an ombudsman. if they have, i would love for you to post their names, so i can contact them and they can explain to me how you are the person to take up this task... yeah, i'll be waiting for that list... i am sure you can just make a PDF of the petition they sent you, begging for you to speak for the forum community... feel free to pm that to me or just post it here in the thread... *cough* *cough*...-0

So you want members to elect someone who will then take that position and support the moderators when a member is banned from the community? Nevermind the fact that it's not the moderators who ban people, I don't think the community is going to like this idea.

Certainly they could elect someone else then.

I'm just not predicting that's the way the election is going to turn out, especially considering the fact I'm the only one who's been nominated so far.

Who's to say the mods or admins would listen to this one player above the rest, especially if only 1 or 2 people are nominated?

I have been supportive of the mods also & have assisted in exposing multis. Cheaters. I see your true agenda seems to be remove those "you" deem to be bad seeds. We are customers. C C provides us a service & we provide them a profit. When we break the rules they discipline us and at times banish us. Just because I don't like you or you don't like me does not give you or I the right to have a say as to who C C allows to play. We pay to play. This is a game friend. You can not seriously believe that you or I have a right to dictate to the owners who plays as long as rules are followed just cuz you don't "like" someone.

Exactly. So Saxitoxin better get to work on putting together that ballot. Maybe in a new thread with a poll.
