You didn't exactly leave anything to discuss other than how silly you sound.

I stumbled into my first fog of war game. Like many n00bs, I didn't understand why there were question marks everywhere. Thanks to JoshyBoy and his foggy tourney, it is now a setting I've come to enjoy. On some maps/settings, I find I don't even need to change my strategy all that much.

hi, I'm not a "n00b" okay thanks.

Imagine playing chess where you couldn't see the other guy's pieces.

dumb

I played a guy yesterday AOR 1, without fog, and all we did was deploy our guys without attacking for about 8 rounds. I finally realized that the only way for either of us to win the game would be to attack the other's strongest position and leave it to the dice. I did this, and won.

My opponent posted in chat that the only reason I won was because he forgot to turn fog on. My position is that fog would have made it a much lamer game because with it off we could at least determine what the move was. With fog on, all you do is blunder around until you crash into the other guy.

Those two statements are contradictory. If you think that AoR is based on just lucky dice and happening to find your opponent, you are wrong. The map is based on the probability of success and who can calculate it vs who can't (and speed if you are playing freestyle)

Let us discuss the differences between AoR 1 with and without fog

Without:
1. Build
2. Calculate how many troops it takes to kill your opponent.
3. Get that amount of troops
4. Kill them while they are not looking (attackers advantage ftw)

With fog:
1.Build
2. Calculate the amount of troops it would take you to kill your opponent if you checked 2 wrong areas before finding him (thus making it a work the 2/3 of the time you find your opponent)
3. Get that amount of troops
4. Kill them while they are not looking (attackers advantage ftw)

Actually there is a version of chess on some sites with "fog" in place. However, if you feel that way about it then I suggest the following:

1. Stick to sunny (non fog) games
2. Stick to normal chess

Not quite - You can often work out the location of the other guy based on what you can see. While fog means that you often will not know where everyone is you can still make some educated decisions.

I like fog as an option. It adds an extra element to the game and can make for more of a challenge. That is a personal preference. if you don't like it then stay away from it..
