I haven't played Classic Shapes since they changed it....

And I'm enraged every time I look back on my past games and they're all so bland looking

Are you trying to be funny there robin :) ? It's a much simpler map with fewer options and that's a FACT, however Master Fenrir is right when he says that it's a good map for newcomers and less skilled players :P ! Or those who are feeling a little nostalgic  .

Well of course it's a simpler map,
which is why the purity of the strategy is so apparent to those with skill...

But i suppose it's all how you look at it...
and weather you favor your left brain or your right brain.... or ....

I'm sorry to bring you the "news" but a simple map is a simple map and no mather how much you try to twist it the facts are as clear as a whistle; few territories and no special options to make it harder is what makes a map simple! It takes a woman not understand the logic behind that :P, but I guess that's because your emotions always gets in the way when a rational decision shall be made  ! You like that map so much that you can't accept that anything might be wrong with it! Why are women always like that, everything is either good or bad, useless or faultless. There's something in between you know :) ! I can see the downsides with all the maps I like; Imperium Romanum is very easy to master ones you've learned it, Supermax: Prison Riot is not a fun map if you're less than 5 ppl. and so on!
Start thinking with that right part of the brain and maybe I'll use my left a little more :D !

How can you judge it as a simple map if you haven't played any real games on it?

That ought to be entertaining... oh, and robin, could you upload the latest patch for your dice hacking software? I've rolled like fifteen straight sixes, and it's starting to look suspicious.

Actually, you're completely wrong. Classic Shapes may be the simplest map, but it is the hardest to win reguarly on due to practically every player knowing how to play it. Therefore, to win reguarly on it you have to really know what you are about (on a 6 player singles games for example). However, games like Supermax Prison Riot are played by far less people and can often be won easily (for example in a 1on1 format) if one player knows 'the tricks' of the map.

There is also some other evidence to consider. Check the top 250 on this site: What percentage are playing 'the simple maps?' Cross out those you think are farmers and you're pretty much left with the 'simple maps'. You really don't think there maybe something to these 'simple maps?'

Finally, you referred to 2.1 as 'not a simple map'. Again, you are wrong even by the standards of your own definition here; no bombardment options, no neutrals to fight through, no special tricks at all. 2.1 is just very big and has multiple bonuses...but it is still a very simple map...hence most top players play it.

So be careful! If you keep playing those 'manly man complex maps' you'll end up in the captain/low major rut beating on the unsuspected when they join you on 'the hard maps you play' but always getting hammered when you, on occasion, get involved in the real games on CC...on the simple maps!

So what you guys are saying is that if a map is not complicated then it's harder to be good at it? That sounds like it makes sense but wouldn't Luxembourg be a favourite map for the best players :-s ? Or is it too simple  ? Fact is that the bigger and more complicated a map is the more can you alter your tactics, sure it's possible to make points on the old maps but if you master a map with a lot of complexity then you can gain more points! Mr Changsa isn't counting that most people with high ranks here are those who joined years ago, when a lot of the new maps didn't exist! They had to settle with the old maps and became good at them, thereby making them their favorite maps! What you try first is often what you like the most is an old saying and I think it explains why some still fancy the old maps! By the way I accepted Robin's invite/challenge Game 5247158 I don't expect to win, partly because she starts first and I start last but mostly because it's my first (and probably only) game on that map!
