Strategy or exploiting a loop-hole??

Postby Rustler on Wed Jul 22, 2009 1:31 pm

I have come across this so called "strategy" twice now. The first time it was done to me, I didn't care about the game but it was still annoying. The fact that my opponent used this "tactic" to begin with just showed me how bad a strategist he was to use such an exploit.

The exploit is simple enough, and I find it alarming how many people use it, how many people are alright with it being used and that the admins don't seem to give a rats ass about it.

It takes a freestyle game to do it. Now, standard rule in freestyle games, set up by the people who run this...site...is that if you were the last to go in a freestyle game round, you cannot be the first to go in the new round. This keeps people from going twice in a row, keeps them from having an unfair advantage in a game. This, I repeat, is something THEY have set up!! To get around this, people wait until the 24 hour round is almost up in the freestyle game before taking their turn, they then let the time run out instead of finishing their turn after attacking and making fortifications, if any. Now, when the time runs out, the slate is wiped clean and everybody gets to go again, even the last person who didn't finish their turn. That way, they get to go twice in a row, exploiting that little failure on the admins part to think about that ahead of time.

I reported this as an exploit and I was told it wasn't against the rules. They made the rule of when you are the last to go, you cannot be first in the new round...so their intent was to keep this shit from happening. Why they do not bother to fix it and keep idiots from exploiting is beyond me. It is that reason that I have canceled my account.

Well, that is the largest reason. There are a few others, but the fact that the people in charge are aware of it and just let it go...the fact that so many people have to cheat to win a strategy game...it is appalling. So, good luck to the rest of you, be aware of this cheap exploit, and I suggest you avoid playing with people who use it. The only two that I saw who used it were high ranking paid members....whether or not this has an impact on the admins turning a blind eye, I have no knowledge. Enjoy!

What??!! People actually DO this sort of thing? No wonder why you are leaving!

I think everyone who knows of members who do this should post it in this thread. Or start a new one to do it.

75% of the games that I have played were freestyle.

Why is it do you think that no one has ever successfully double turned me?

Do you think I'm just lucky and I have not yet come across a player that would stoop to such a level?

I'll let yo in on a little secret...

Anyone that is good with freestyle strategy can easily thwart any opponent from taking a double turn.

Just because you suck at freestyle is no reason to start crying foul over the particulars of the game format.

Anybody good with freestyle strategy? What in the monkey f@#k is wrong with you people? Instead of being appalled at such an exploit, you freely defend it. But of course...the people who use that exploit would defend it..../sigh.

Oh, and I have no desire to plan my day around a game just so I can keep people from using an exploit. I have stated my answer to such, and it will take full affect after this reply. I will not ever visit this site again, not even to check in on the status of this forum post. If all it gets is people defending using exploits, then CC go go f@#k themselves as wel as the exploiters.

Later folks.

To answer the OP, it is both.

It is a loop-hole that lots of people use strategically.

Don't worry about it khaz. That's just the standard response from someone who can't play a proper game.

This really is unfair. It says in the rules for freestyle "The player who triggers a new round is blocked from taking a second back-to-back turn and must wait until either an opponent begins their turn or half of the round passes."

Someone should at least revise the rule so new players are made aware that it is actually possible to go back-to-back. (Would just take a second for someone to add a line of text here...)

Wrong, you are misinterpreting the rules.

If a player does not end their turn, they can not "trigger a new round".

When the clock times out the system triggers the new round not the player.

Ok, then at the very least this is VERY open to misinterpretation. As a new player, reading the rules as they are you would assume you can't take two turns in a row. Why not just clarify this here?

You do realize that freestyle games are only one aspect of the great variety of styles of games available here, right (on the off-chance you do come back and check the thread)? Just don't play freestyle games, and your problem is solved...it's what I do (for the same reason) and it works just dandy.
