By increasing taxes by a marginal amount and keeping rates at a constant rate it brought about a lot of stability which is what was needed after 12 years of reckless spending. His economic legacy is one of the best of modern US president, its just a shame that the small parts has unintended consequences many years later.
The results of the "Contract with America" economic policies of the Republican-majority congress, into which he was dragged, screaming and kicking.
The right answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer to the real question.

That didnt dictate his economic policy, and a lot of what the republicans wanted was either vetoed, watered down or just not implemented.

Jefferson Davis was president of the Confederacy. He was a very close adviser to Franklin Pierce but I don't see any reason to call Franklin Pierce the best.

There is said "American" not "USA" president and Jefferson Davis is American. So he should be in the list as he is definitely one of the most famous American presidents.

Oh! Oh! Can I play, too?

The best "American" president would have to be... hm...
Salvador Allende!

One of the most legendary, in any case.

Jefferson Davis was both treasonous and a failure.

Perhaps its due to the great Chester that they changed the law that you must be born in USA to be president.

Chester Arthur's parents lived in Canada and then moved to Vermont. It is not known exactly when they moved so it is unknown whether Chester Arthur was born in Vermont or Canada.

Jefferson Davis was President of The Confederate States of America and every president of this nation was President of The United States of America. Venezuela, Canada and Mexico do not have America in there name. They are located in the Amearicas but Amearica is not in there name. That is why you never here Canadians refered to as Americans.

They do live in the Americas. So that would technically make them American presidents.

It all boils down to the terms America and American. The US is titled United States of AMERICA. It is technically the United States of North America.
US citizens have taken to refering to themselves as Americans, but an American is actually anyone living in any of the Americas.
So Chavez counts.
