PM notifying new users of scripts.

Postby The Neon Peon on Fri Aug 14, 2009 4:20 pm

Concise description:
  • A PM should be sent to new players notifying them of popular scripts.

Specifics:
  • New players get PMs saying "Welcome to CC" and other stuff like that, and I believe one explaining assassin games etc. So why not send a PM that tells people about the three most popular scripts on the site: BOB, CMs, and Map Rank?
  • This would simply be added to the "Welcome to CC" PM people get when they first join the site.
  • The PM would inform users of scripts, their benefits, and direct them to this guide: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=73696#p1771988
  • Lack has already said CMs would be included as part of the site, so why not simply inform people of these things.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • More people will stay with the site because they can actually click on the maps, I am sure that many people leave because the drop down menus are not interactive enough and much slower. It makes more sense to click on a territory than to select one from 50 in a drop down list.
  • There will hopefully be less complaining that scripts are unfair.

Post here even if you have nothing useful to say (as long as it is not flaming or something else that will get this thread locked). SERIOUSLY!!! if the only thing you have to say is "I don't use BOB" or "I like Map Rank" I want it posted here.

I think that's a pretty good idea, also a PM for every user as of late to notify them of scripts and mods, not everyone visits the forums. Maybe just include a section in a welcome PM directing them to the forums and explaining what each one is and which one includes the scripts. etc.

Yes, putting it into the Welcome PM is a good idea (will add that to first post), although I dislike simply sending them to the Plugins & Addons forum. One thing I have learned from this forum is that people don't know how to use the "search" function, so what I think will end up happening is that many of them will simply find a script, try to download it then get frustrated when it does not do anything since they don't have Greasemonkey or maybe even don't have firefox.

Perhaps a link to a guide on how to download scripts?

I did, but I think chipv was just showing one that could be put in the PM. Good Guide, I'll edit it into the first post unless anyone has an objection to it being used.
