Got any predictions for us ovo? I'm not gonna guess all the winners but maybe just a few.

Week 1
#5 Alabama vs #7 Virginia Tech Alabama 13-7
#3 Oklahoma vs #20 Brigham Young Oklahoma 50-24
#9 Oklahoma State vs #13 Georgia As much as it pains me to say...Oklahoma State 31-27
#16 Oregon vs #14 Boise State N/A
#18 Florida State vs Miami (FL) I predict an upst. Miami by 6
Missouri vs Illinois N/A
#1 Florida vs Charleston Southern Florida 63-3
#2 Texas vs Louisiana-Monroe Texas 56-10
Michigan vs Western Michigan Michigan by 14

Week 2
#4 USC vs #6 Ohio State USC 42-28
#23 Notre Dame vs Michigan Notre Dame by 10
#22 Iowa vs Iowa State Iowa by 14
#17 TCU vs Virginia N/A
#13 Georgia vs South Carolina Georgia by 3 (SC always keeps it close with Georgia no matter how good Georgia is)
#11 LSU vs Vanderbilt LSU by 7
#16 Oregon vs Purdue Oregon by 12
#15 Georgia Tech vs Clemson Upset Clemson by 3
#1 Florida vs Troy Florida by 17 (I think Florida may stumble a bit early [looking ahead to Tennessee] in this game bu I expect them to come back to make it a fairly comfortable win in the second half)
#2 Texas vs Wyoming Texas by 28
#3 Oklahoma vs Tulsa Oklahoma by 21

Week 3
#1 Florida vs. Tennessee If you've been paying attention to anything Lane Kiffin's done since becoming head coach at Tennessee than you know that both Steve Spurrier and Urban Meyer have a reason to beat him this year. Florida 52-3
#2 Texas vs Texas Tech Texas by 10
#7 Virginia Tech vs #24 Nebraska N/a
#16 Oregon vs #19 Utah N/A
#18 Florida State vs #20 Brigham Young BYU by 6
#12 California vs Minnesota Cal by 10
#21 North Carolina vs East Carolina
#22 Iowa vs Arizona N/A
#23 Notre Dame vs Michigan State N/A
Louisville vs Kentucky Kentuky by 10. Kentucky always plays well outside of the Conference before melting down when it comes to actual SEC play.

Other than a possible loss the first week (I do think that Georgia has a good chance at winning depending on how prepared they are) I think Georgia should have a good year. There defense should be sound, their offensive line may actually be healthy for once, We have AJ Green and a few other talented receivers on our list, Joe Cox is a capable replacement for Matthew Stafford and while he may not have the arm that Stafford does he is a more accurate short to mid-range passer, and despite losing Moreno we have plenty of talented RBs to try and fill his shoes all of them who have a stronger O-Line to give them the running space they need.

People say Georgia is going to have a good season every year. And every year they disappoint, this year should be no different with all their losses to the draft at important positions.

Anyways, I have tickets to USC-tOSU and USC-ND. Gotta love going to Columbus and South Bend in the same season. Fight on!

Every year? 2007 wasn't supposed to be a good year for Georgia but they went 11-2 with a big win over the defending national champions florida 42-30 and trounced an undefeated Hawaii team in the Sugar Bowl. Just about every year, with a couple of exceptions, Georgia has been ranked at one spot in the national rankings and finishes at a higher spot.

Georgia disappointed big in 2008 and they have a tendency to lose games that they really should win but the seasons as a whole they have not been disappointing.

Regardless, the only competition they will have in the SEC this year is Florida (who should coast to the NC game). The Big12/Pac10 really need to take advantage of a down year in the SEC.

Wyoming just got a new head coach, so I'm not sure how well they will do this year, but I look forward to see what this coach will do.

THat is actually fairly true. I don't see tennessee really being much better than they were last year. Yes they got a great defensive coordinator but they were already good on defense, it's their offense that sucks. Auburn made a huge mistake choosing their head coach. Georgia unfortunately probably won't be a national title contender though I do expect them to have a good season. Ole Miss will be good. Arkansas probably will be better than last year but still bad overall. SC will probably be weaker than last year. Mississippi State is always a weak team. LSU should be good. I don't expect too much of a drop off from last year's season from Alabama, I'd say they'll probably make the SEC championship again, probably lose to Florida again (I expect Florida to win this game and have control of it pretty much from beginning to end but I don't expect it to be a big difference in point totals) and then find themselves back in the Sugar Bowl with questionable results.

However 2008 was a down year for the SEC too. Sure Florida won the NC, Ole Miss became one of the surprise teams in the country, and Alabama went 12-2 and 12-0 before losing to Florida in the SEC Championship. But Tennessee was much worse than they had been, Georgia fell far flat from what most people were expecting. Auburn and Mississippi state were just horrendous pretty much all season. Arkansas was hurting all season long. South Carolina had more problems than I can count and struggled to make a decent season. Vanderbilt started strong but after that 5-0 run they went 1-6 the rest of the way. and Kentucky couldn't seem to find any way to win an SEC gaem.

You gotta love these Georgia Fans. I give you guys credit you back your team through thick and thin but you got way too high hopes for them this year my friend.

Georgia will lose 3 to 4 games this year guaranteed and wont ever have the slightest of hopes for getting the SEC this yr. Florida is playing such a watered down schedule that I want to puke in my mouth. No way for a National Championship defending team to go.. I'm praying they lose 1 game due to complacency but I know I'm reaching even saying that. I'd love for it to be against Tennessee as well, but most likely there toughest game will come from LSU. Who I still think need a strong prayer to win against Florida.

My prediction is this Florida may lose 1 game but they will beat Ole Miss in the SEC title game cause Tebow aint going to let Snead do it again 2 years in a row to him and his GAYtors and the Gators get a re-match with the Big-12 in the National Championship. Only thing is this year the Heisman winner Colt McCoy takes the Longhorns all the way and finishes up where Oklahoma couldn't do.

I don't see any Pac- 10 or any other division getting close enough to going undefeated much less only 1 loss this year. With USC and Carroll starting a true Freshman at QB and them having a much experienced Ohio State team at week 2 that's alot to expect from the young 19 yr old.

Texas benefits from alot of Seniors leaving from the Big 12 last yr, as I have said time and time again Bradford was an idiot for not coming out, he lost his main WR and a few lineman, he wont repeat those numbers he had last yr and has cost him self the number 1 overall draft position he woulda had. Texas Tech lost Harrell & Crabs, A&M lost their QB, Missouri lost Maclin and Chase Daniels. Texas lost a couple possession WR's and a stellar DE. Texas should win the Big 12 and get the National Champ bid. However Oky State wont be too far behind.

My 2 cents.

Umm...yeah my realistic view does consist of Florida reaching the National championship (with all the hype around the SEC right now having them in the Championship even with a loss is far from a stretch) and Georgia having 3-4 losses.

I think that Florida will win the national championship again. They've got most of their offense and all of their defense (not just first string but also second string) coming back. It should be a tough match though. Florida coould lose one game but they have the best chance of going undefeated in the SEC in a while (2004 Auburn as good as they were was a fluke).

I agree. I think that Oklahoma should be ranked #3 coming into this season and tTexasshould be #2 as I think they are a better team.

I may have jumped the gun a lil bit on you then. I thought you were saying that Georgia should be up on top this yr.

I am from Texas but currently live in Florida and am a huge Gator Hater. I work with a bunch of guys who are dawg fans and go with them every year to Florida Georgia game. Ive heard them non stop talk about how Georgia is this and that this year and every other year, and I just dont see it.

As I said. Since Im a Texas fan I think the longhorns will pull it out, I honestly think Florida couldnt have hung with us last year had we got the nod for that tie break scandal, but we will get ours.

I am like I said though appalled by the watered down schedule they have this year, at least you dawgs have a credible one. Texas... not soo much but I think there schedule doesnt look as tough just because the Big-12 have huge losses of personnel not because they chose to pick cake games where they dont leave the state like some... Gators Im lookn at u.

THat's the thing. Georgia this decade has been really good every year but they've only been great one year (2007) so yeah there was a lot of hype for the 2008 season and I admit I bought into it despite Georgia being so beat up (really a poor excuse as even with the injuries they should have never played as bad as they did towards the end of the season). I really would have rather seen Texas in the NC and it probably did affect their play in the game agains OSU (I am under the opinion that they got robbed of the chance) but overall I understand why the NCAA made their decision and cannot argue with it using their logic.

That's how schedules are sometimes. I'm actually happy because URban Meyer seems to have ended the long held tradition of Floria taking a week off before the Georgia game every year (As big as it is both teams could probably use a week off to get ready for it actually)

I think 2007 georgia was robbed. and they let Hawaii know that. But as u said they havent been the same since, and Im not as sold on this new QB that you guys have that every other dawg fan is. RB's are RB's, Georgia breeds em, and while I wasnt a big Stafford fan I dont think hes that easy to replace. And if I remember right wasnt your secondary suspect last yr, did you guys fix that?

Maybe I overestimated my hopes for the guy. Like I said Cox is a capable quarterback and he should prove to be more than capable at the position but no he's not the same quarterback as Stafford and Georgia will probably see some drop off in pass yardage per game. I do think he's good enough to make it a season. In terms of who was the better team in 2007, yes Georgia got robbed but as far as fairness for who did more and who legitimately should have been in the Game LSU was the right call. To put it simply Georgia just had the problem that they didn't show up to play Tennessee and Tennessee got the bid over them to the SEC championship (a game that they all but gave to LSU as both teams looked sloppy in that game) b8t yes Georgia was the hotter team coming into the end of that season and if they had been able to make the SEC Championship game I would think that not only would they have beaten a beaten up LSU team that was missing multiple key players and had another that was not at full health but also would have gone on to win the NC

I'm not much of a pre-season NCAA predictor and am more likely to consider picks once I've seen some action on the field.

The SEC will be interesting as always with some tough teams to beat, like the usual suspects Florida, Alabama and LSU. But I expect some surprises too... from Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina.

Houston Nutt is an amazing coach and has already made Ole Miss a team to be worried about. They may have been the biggest surprise of all last year beating Florida and Oklahoma State Texas Tech. In fact their only loses were self inflicted, fumbling away games... so if they hold onto the ball this year look out. Like the Gators, Longhorns and Sooners... they have a great QB.

Not sure if being the pre-season #1 is a curse, but I don't expect Florida to repeat as national champs and it won't surprise me if the don't even make it to the big dance.

Week 1
#5 Alabama vs #7 Virginia Tech Bama 16-13 or Hokies 31-13
#3 Oklahoma vs #20 Brigham Young 48-27
#9 Oklahoma State vs #13 Georgia 28-18
#16 Oregon vs #14 Boise State 38-34
#18 Florida State vs Miami (FL) 28-10
Missouri vs Illinois 24-20
#1 Florida vs Charleston Southern 56-0 at the half
#2 Texas vs Louisiana-Monroe 56-7
Michigan vs Western Michigan 31-24

Week 2
OSU beats USC

Tennessee will continue to have too many offensive issues to be a good team this year, especially since I think they lost their only 2 legitimately good offensive players. South Carolina will have a steady QB this year at least more so than last year but I don't think it will make as huge of an impact as where they stand in the SEC. And I admit bias here, but Unless Georgia ends up going 12-0 or 11-1, I don't think they can be considered a surprise team. Florida is heavily favored in the SEC east but Georgia if I am not mistaken is consiered to be the #2 in the east and #4 or #5 throughout the SEC.

I actually want to change my position on the USC vs. Osugame. Now that I think about it. I think this game is being played in OHio which I think will give the Buckeyes a slight advantage (especially as they will be looking for redemption after losing three straight BCS bowls and being trounced in last year's match against the Trojans)

I can't say that I've been paying much attention to tween season
events with the better teams, beyond who may have jumped to
the NFL. I expect Tennessee to be improved, not great, but they
do have a young running back that may give their offense a much
needed push in the right direction.

You're right, it was Texas Tech who choked against Mississippi 47-34,
Oklahoma State had their hands full losing to Oregon 42-31.

I anticipate Florida to have an abundance of speed on both sides of the ball
as always, but feel their non-conference cupcake games might screw 'em
on strength of schedule if the final rankings are tight and a few rebounding
SEC teams might do the rest. It's hard to imagine any major college team
going undefeated, so the extra fluff on the Gator schedule may come back
to haunt them when it's time to sort out the bowls. There are definitely a
lot of teams capable of reaching the title game and I'm eager to see how it
all plays out.

Home field is a plus for OSU vs USC, but I really think their quarterback play
is the biggest factor. Last year the Buckeyes started a true freshman QB and
hung in there for a long time with the Trojans before letting it all slip away.
I expect this rematch to be much closer and can't wait for the second week
to get here.

Virginia Tech always seems to get off to a slow start and finishes the season strong,
so I expect Alabama to handle them. The exception for the Hokies is special teams
and speed, so if they manage to get rolling and it becomes a high scoring game I think
it will be hard for the Tide to keep up. A low scoring defensive battle will give 'Bama
the edge and the win.

I see all these early meetings of high ranked teams as toss ups and the results could
easily go either way as player's roles are still being defined. Let's just hope nobody
is victimized by big game jitters and these matchups generate some great football.

They'll be improved but they'd be lucky to pull off anything like an 8-4 record. I predict 6-6

I wouldn't say choked. A) their best player was not at 100% and B) Ole Miss played a great game and even if Texas Tech had been able to play at their best I think it would have been a tight game that Ole Miss could have still won.

oVo wrote:I anticipate Florida to have an abundance of speed on both sides of the ball

I actually do understand this but with all the hype they're getting it will more than likely take a major hiccup in their season to keep them from a chance to repeat in the national championship. even if they have one loss, if it's a loss to a good team and not in the SEC Championship, they have an edge over any other one loss team this nation can produce and an edge over the undefeated teams from "lesser" conferences.

oVo wrote:on strength of schedule if the final rankings are tight and a few rebounding

LIke I said Florida will have the edge. it'll take a major hiccup (like a loss to a subpar team) or losing the SEC Championship to Alabama or whoever they end up playing to prevent them from getting to the national championship.

QB factor will probably play a huge role I just expect home field advantage to be the deciding factor.

I agre with if only because a high speed game against Utah (plus a slow start from the Tide) proved to be their downfall last year against Utah.

big gameswhen it comes to these kin of teams is always a toss up. No one expected Ole Misss to beat Florida or Texas Tech. NO one expecte OSU to stay in the game against Texas (though that game was sloppy during the first 2 1/2 quarters by both teams), andno one was expecting an Oklahoma team thatset a College Football record for points per game playing a Florida team that was also known to be high scoring to share a combined 38 points in the NC. Those games are always toss ups and you never really know what to expect.

I tend to think all the speculation on the upcoming season is total BS and the prognosticators have to exert a bit of patience. It's time to simply sit back, enjoy the games and let the craziness unfold.

Of course if Texas and Southern Cal both manage to run the table there's a good chance they would meet for the National Championship. But that is one humongous IF.

USC rarely runs the table they always trip up. I have to think that the Big 12 is too strong for anyone to run. Though there are very few teams that have a good chance to run the tables in one of the main conferences. Basically, Florida, Texas, USC, Oklahoma (though I personally think Texas has a much better shot) and an outside chance to Alabama.

Kind of like where did all the Big 12 teams go? 2 in the top 3 but only one other team in the top 20. SEC ranked high as usual. OSU and Penn State ranked aboutg as high as you would expect. USC about where you'd expect, and Everything else is fairly preictable.

Four SEC teams pre-season ranked in the Top 10 with another close at 13 just means that the sports pundits have very high expectations for the conference. I suppose it's based on last year and what key players remain and will take a few weeks to unravel who's recruiting class will have the most impact on this season.
