Just ended a 30 day forum ban - i was never notified by email, and there is no PM from the admins in my box informing me just why i was banned. Is this just a typical example of the mods' inefficiency and sloppy modding, or is this the new cc policy to leave us wondering?

While i was disenfranchised i learned that cc membership is on a marked downward slide (big surprise) and there are at least 2 new Risk sites in the making. Maybe it's time you guys tightened up your act?

Now, I assumed you were banned. I also read many of the last posts you made before you were banned, and Im sure not surprised, and I surely know why you were banned. Im sure the lack of notification was a mistake, but you really werent wondering why you were banned were you?

If so, let me explain. Flamewars is no long around. Explicit flaming is now an offense that results in diciplinary action, including "banz." Further, Ill assume you were given other banz before, and warnings, which is why this one was longer.

I really am guessing, and if Im wrong, I apologize, but I do hope this is helpful, until you get an official explanation.

Im sorry if you misunderstood "flaming" to mean something other than a form of discourse on the internet, usually with personal attacks and profanity, but that was the meaning of the word, as I used it.

"Explicit flaming", hmm let's see what fitz's idea of "explicit flaming" is. As per a PM i just received from nightstrike, i was band for telling (you guessed it!) fitz that he was acting like a little girl with her panties in a wad. This was after he kept harping away at a minor point, more than derailing a thread with some petty argument about whether or not he used the word "obnoxious" or not, which elicited said "flame" from me. Now i'm sure my "flame" caused incalculable damage to his self esteem, and probably sent innumerable folks scurrying for the safety of a more family friendly environment, but i'll be enough of a pain in the arse to mention that if you scanned the forum right now you'd probably find worse.

Note to self: do not speak disparagingly of those who make a habit of kissing up to the mods.

Actually, I had no idea it was a flame against me. If they asked for my opinion, Id let you say whatever you want to me. As far as you thinking I want to be a mod...well, as I said, when asked, I decided not to, and really have more fun now that I decided not even to be in team CC.

As far as being a minor point in the thread, you were saying I was lying, and then went on to make up the fact that I called you "rude and obnoxious" It seemed relevant enough to me to ask you where I ever used those words...which of course, I didnt. I think finding an example of someone making up facts after they call you a liar is fairly relevant to any discussion. It does tend to lend some idea as to credibility.

In any case I really was just discussing the situation, as I am now. Im sorry you got personal and went too far and got banned, but I cant control that. Its pretty easy to argue these points without becoming personal, and certainly its easy to do it without flaming. I am sorry it was our conversation that resulted in your ban though. If you read through, its very obvious Im only countering your opinion with mine, and I honestly dont know why you take it so personally, or why it gets so personal, especially when it is you who essentially fight for the right to express ones opinion freely.

Anyways, sorry it was our discussion that got you banned. I think its important to have differing ideas on a forum like this, both for content, and entertainment. As I mentioned before, if you can simply discuss the issues, and not resort to personal insults and flaming, im sure you wont be banned again. Its really that simple I think. Well, Ive been called far worse by bk, so this is hardly his worse stuff. As I mentioned before, I saw what I though were worse flames, but not aimed at me.

As far as my lying about reporting it, that is of course possible. I certainly dont remember reporting it if I did, and im not sure that technically matters anyways, because I dont think bk would object to someone flaming him, but that doesnt mean it wouldnt be bannable.

If "panties in a wad" can push something over the line, then "panties in a wad" should, itself, be considered an offense that merits a first warning.

If you didn't report it, then mods were hunting for it. If mods were hunting for it, that's targeting. If they're targeting bk for suggesting something about someone's panties, then they should target anyone for it.

I'm with you, Fitz, in that, I try hard not to flame. I didn't participate in flame wars, and used to ignore ALOT before reporting. Eventually, however, my tolerance was worn down because of protectionism; some hassles my way that were repetetive and unquestionably flames and baits and such, that weren't addressed because a mod was protecting the person. The mod has since admitted protecting the person, and apologized.

Good for the mod. The issue for me, however, is that CC policies still allow mods to target some while protecting others. If it can happen to me, it can happen to others.

Let's say bk makes a habit of nasty flames everywhere. Finally, he tones it down to "panties in a wad," which is something that would never be a warnable offense on CC. Is his use of "panties" an improvement over past behaviors? If he flamed as badly as you seem to indicate, then "panties" IS an improvement, and as such, he should be commended for the improvement rather than banned because he didn't achieve absolute perfection; ESPECIALLY since the supposed flame wouldn't get an eyelash-bat from anyone else - including you, the recipient.

Another perspective is, if you and bk are friends, but enjoy hacking away at each other with verbal swords, then, unless the posts get extreme, you two should be able to hack away. But just because you can hack at each other without penalty doesn't mean either of you should be able to hack the same way at someone else if whatever it is crosses grey areas.

I think you'd agree with that; I think bk would agree with that.
