Special troop names for individual maps

Postby Symmetry on Sun Sep 06, 2009 12:14 pm

Saw this idea over in the suggestions forum, but basically it consists of changing the wording of the standard "Symmetry received 3 troops for 6 regions" kind of template. Take out "troops", and maybe "regions", and replace them with something more specific to the map.

It's just for tone, but I really liked the idea:

Chicago Prohibition you get "schmucks"

Roman maps = cohorts or legions?
Poker Club = chips?
Classic Art = critics?

Edited to make more sense

They're all cannon fodder.

Some are sword or laser fodder. Cannon fodder would be kind of awesome for Waterloo though.

Also, I want to see more stuff featuring swords and lasers together.

Sorry- I posted this here so as not to go off topic in a suggestions thread. This one wasn't intended to actually change any of the maps. Just to see if anyone had a clever idea for a replacement. I don't think there needs to be a change, I do think it would be a nice addition. I just like the idea of schmucks in gangland-era Chicago. I'm easily amused.

Why does it matter if there called armies, legions, chips and so on yeah there cleaver but it would make no sense and take longer for maps to get made.

It doesn't matter at all. It's just for fun. I have no problem with them being called troops. It's just a bit of fun, dude. Chillax bra! Nothing to get worked up over.

It'd just be a new tag or two (or three) to the XML...
Code: Select all
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<map>
   <title>Poker</title>
   ...
   <troops>Chips</troops>
   <territories>Cards</territories>
   <regions>Hands</regions>
   ...
</map>

Tada... We're done. If the tags aren't there, then it simply goes to the default. Not the most complicated thing in the world, and would add an interesting dynamic to the game.
In heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine, in heaven... Everything is fine... You got your things, and I've got mine.

Awesome- thanks Hecter. You should post that in the thread in suggestions. I didn't want to make a huge deal out of it, I just thought it was kinda cool.

Interesting Sugestion 8-)
"37 Cohorts from Taraconensis Province attack 12 Cohorts from Aquitania Provinces"
Or where is Flags.you can call Legions 8-)

Or
"200 Hoplites from City State Megarians attack 100 Pelots from City State Corinthians"

Exactly, just an added bit of aesthetic, but a fun one

:( I got trolled and the topic in the general thread was derailed. Sad as my aim was, it was just to see if anyone else had some funny ideas based on the maps they'd played. Ah well, a sad end to a good suggestion and a sad general thread.

Keep chasing those rainbows!
Or not, whatever...
