Fractured America...

Postby demonfork on Fri Sep 18, 2009 7:35 pm

Recent heated discussion over the map "Fractured America" has halted this maps production...

viewtopic.php?f=241&t=95664

Are we going too far with censorship or is there a legitimate gripe over this map?

While I agree that this topic deserves discussion, I have to say that you've made a pretty ridiculous poll to go with it.

poor poll, no link to the LOCKED foundry thread or image of the map, or the recent C&A in which the map is a player, etc... so, this is pretty much a blind poll where people will vote without ever seeing the map or having any knowledge of the map. way to make what could be a potentially great thread into a half-assed effort to garner votes without giving people adequate or ANY information...-0

Do you always start a debate by stating an opinion without backing it up with any technical facts? Tit for tat Maynard!

Why don't you give me some reasons why my poll is "ridiculous" otherwise you are just stating a garbage opinion.

Awesome map. I think it's great. Doesn't need censorship, as it's a fictional account of what the US might look like in 40 years. Orwell's 1984 turned out to not be true. Just like this will almost certainly not happen. But it's all in good fun.

For what it's worth, anyone with any knowledge of local demographics and population trends would find the idea of some sort of Shari-law west coast to be highly implausible bordering on insane. Having looked at the map itself, it does seem like the cartographer has a bit of an axe to grind.

I find it odd that people are asking that a themed map taking place in the future after economic collapse and war be held to current political correctness standards. Whatever happened to an artist (if you want to call a map maker that) being allowed creative liberties?

The map may show bias, but I don't think its intention was to bait or flame when the first 11 pages of the map's thread is filled with practically nothing but enthusiastic and constructive posts by interested players before all hell broke loose.

If that map is unacceptable, I wonder how Texan Wars ever made it out of the foundry with "Indian Territory" on it.

Im in the middle on this. It may be that Im not american and prolly dont understand. But the map look good. I really think people went about this the wrong way, the idea was good. And if there was some political incorrectness then perhaps a friendly suggestion instead of derailing the thread with f this f that. From my experience in the foundry of you offer a viable suggestion the map makers consider it. Just my opinion

You are absolutely correct. The makers are very open to ideas and suggestions. They need input to "see" what they don't. etc. These maps are a conglomeration of several visions and when it is presented properly they are all ears. Industrial Helix and his American Colonies map is a perfect example. Same with cairnswrk. As far as I could tell Isaiah listened too.

But to kick in the door... SAD

I think the general idea is that people wish it was more creative. And creative liberties are all well and good, but this isn't an art gallery, and if someone made a Fractured Britain map and called the Scotland bonus "sheepshagging wankers"... actually, that would be funny. The point being, if you're going to do a futuristic map, have it make some kind of sense logically.

If the Economy collapsed, it is clear that we had to sell California (a bankrupt state) to the United Arab Emirates in a desperate attempt to to get booze money for the Bible Belt

New Fallujah

In all seriousness, not a bad map. Think some of the names could need changing though. Why New Fallujah? I'd think New Mecca, or New Medina or something would fit better. Not my map, though.

I don't have a problem with this map, it seems pretty well within' the creators artistic license. I wonder if there would have a been so much uproar if the cartographer wasn't named for a bible verse. If the maker of the maps was called A.Huxley or something everybody would think it was fashionable edgy. I am pretty sure this map caries it's authors political bias but it doesn't seem to be offensive in and of itself.
That said depicting the mob with the Italian flag is racist and need to be changed.

Half a glass of lemonade.
