Doubles Ladder (abandoned)

Postby danryan on Tue Sep 29, 2009 11:52 am

Update: Due to real life time commitments I cannot run this tournament and do it justice. If someone else would like to take over that will be fine, otherwise it'll go into the dustbin. Sorry to all who signed up.

This tournament / ladder was inspired by the recent LX Ladder tournament run by Lindax.

Link to the original tournament:
viewtopic.php?f=91&t=90016#p2079430

I plan to run this for 3 months. For the ladder, challenges, and updates, see post 3.

Scoring System:

Your team will get 3 points every time you challenge a player and x points for the rung you are on every Sunday at the stroke of midnight GMT (rung 1 is the top):

rung 1: 12 points
rung 2: 10 points
rung 3: 09 points
rung 4: 08 points
rung 5: 07 points
rung 6: 06 points

The team on the top rung will get 24 bonus points on January 1st, at the stroke of midnight GMT, and the team who has the most points at that moment wins the tournament.

Rules for Challenging:

1.- You challenge a team 1 rung above you here in this thread. The team challenged chooses the map and the settings posts them in this thread. The map and setting have to be the same for all 3 games. I will set up the games and send the password by pm.

2.- Your team cannot choose the same map two challenges in a row and you can only use the same map 3 challenges in total. You are free to choose any settings, except freestyle.

3.- If the team challenged does not respond within 3 days, they lose the challenge and and exchange places on the ladder with the challengers. If the challengers do not join the game within 1 day, everything remains the same. Again, once the game is made the two teams have 24 hours to join.

4.- When your team wins a game post it immediately in this thread.

5.- Your team can only play 1 "challenge game" at a time.

6.- Your team can only play the same team again after one of the two teams have played a game with another team.

7.- When a challenged team successfully defends his/her place on the ladder, that team cannot be challenged again within a period of 24 hours. This rule does not apply to the team holding first place.

8.- "Future challenges" are not accepted. In other words: Your team cannot challenge the winner of game x, for example.

9.- If your score goes below 3600 points you cannot challenge anybody until your score is at least 4000 points again.

Note: For me to be able to update you have to post everything (except passwords) in this forum thread. Failure to do so will make things very difficult for me and may be rewarded with unpleasant measures.

The order of the initial ladder is decided by the score of the players at the start of this tournament (October 1, 2009). The team with the lowest total score will be placed on top and the teams with the highest scores will be placed on the bottom.

Note the rule change I've implemented due to some gamesmanship on LX's ladder tournament - once the games are made and the invite is sent, the teams have 24 hours to join or the challenge is forfeit.

Let me know if this is a problem.

i will be joining... partner to come.

i do have a couple questions...

5.- Your team can only play 1 "challenge game" at a time.
so if you are in rung 3 for example, and a team from rung 4 challenges you, you can not challenge up at the same time?

7.- When a challenged team successfully defends his/her place on the ladder, that team cannot be challenged again within a period of 24 hours. This rule does not apply to the team holding first place.
to answer my own question and ask another, i am assuming you can not challenge up if you are being challenged from below... however in that 24 hour grace period you have to be quick enough (and lucky enough) to challenge up the ladder before someone challenges you once the 24 hours are up?

Reason i am asking is because if you are in rung 2 and the other team from rung 2 is challenging rung 1, you are kind of out of luck as there is only 1 team in rung 1.

question #2
according to rule 1, you will be making the three games (apparently a challenge consists of a best of 3). if i notice that two of the games have completed with the third game still ongoing but the same team has won both the first two and it has been more than the 24 hour grace period since the 2nd game finished but the 3rd game is still ongoing, can i challenge that team or do all 3 games have to finish?

Correct.

Also correct, to both your first and second questions.

Reason i am asking is because if you are in rung 2 and the other team from rung 2 is challenging rung 1, you are kind of out of luck as there is only 1 team in rung 1. True, but the ladder is designed to have a lot of turnover at the top.

Yes. If the challenge is won (2 of 3 to one team) it is considered over.
