Bad ratings

Postby Loztralia on Wed Sep 30, 2009 3:01 pm

I won't post a game number or name at this stage as I've given the guy a chance to change his rating.

A player left me a 1* rating with the tag "slow", even though I (a) live in Australia so have obvious time zone constraints and (b) played my turns within an hour (I checked the game log). I'm pretty new so this has really killed my overall rating, and it's completely unfair.

My question is do I just have to suck it up and hope I get lots of higher ratings or can I do anything about this? I've checked and the guy who left my rating generally rates people 1* - no doubt I will foe him but is there anything I can do otherwise?

u can post in the cheating and abuse section, if he rates everyone 1's then its an abuse of the system.. you wont get the rating back but it will be noted, and he could lose his privlage to rate players.. after a while that bad rating wont even matter.. if ur not a total dick in ur games everyone generally gives all 5's so ur rating will bounce back in no time

Not to take over this thread, but what counts as bad rating? I got ppl being rude b/c I used average (3) as an approximate average, just as this site's ratings page states. Around half of ppl are <= average (if median approximately mean), but it's not taken well to keep that in mind.

Contradictory as it sounds, I'm curious if there is a list of other unwritten (i.e., unofficial) rules I should follow in addition to giving ppl 5s all across the board lest I suffer from excessive explanation and unwarranted baseness. The community guidelines just say, "Use the ratings and up to 4 tags to describe your opponent and warn/encourage future participants." I'm not a fan of arbitrary application of "when in Rome," especially thru negative reinforcement.

Btw, I've since switched to 5s b/c otherwise my ratings go down, too.

The two examples:
I missed my opportunity to crap up your rating for no good reason like you did mine. Oh well, I'll get you some other time punk.

You can leave me as few stars as you want, I still killed ya nub. And won the game

Others were more polite. Thanks!

If you don't see any stars, I didn't rate you for that category. It's not a bad rating, it's not a rating.
Try a turn notifier so you will know when you can move.

I dont pay attention to rating unless that person is getting like alot of 1 and 2's in a short period of time.I think most people are like that.Ratings are generally ignored so i would not
worry about it too much.Like other said if you think its might be rating abuse you can always report it.

I usaully put a rational calm comment on the bad rating and move on..Its not a end of the
world if you get a few bad rating since you are more likely to get good rating. That unless you are a just a jerk.So anyway man dont sweat it too much

Buck up soldier. I sent you an invite for a game. Assuming you don't do something to cause me to rate you otherwise, I'll give you all 5's and help your average get back up.

I think everyone gets the odd bad rating from someone over time - don't worry about it. If anyone's actually concerned about it, they can always check the game log for themselves and see if there really IS a cause for concern.

Ignore it. You did the right thing with your response to his rating. you're getting mostly 5stars from what I'm seeing so your average will quickly come up. foe him if you want but just move on and forget him.

Nice move squishy. I'll back that up as well. if you want a game drop me a line and I'll send you an invite. I'll rate you well. Don't screw up and talk a bit (even if its just gl and gg) and you get 5's
