If I could give advice to new players (and assuming that they want the advice) I would say that luck goes both ways. Sometimes you will have really good luck to the point that you might start to feel guilty about it. You might even start to feel like Conan when he said "to crush enemies; to see them driven before you; and to hear the lamentation of the women". Either that or make a quick trip to the casino while your luck still holds.
Other times your luck will be so bad that you will want to throw computer out the window and declare like I once did that I would never play on CC again. This will usually be followed by a series of expletives not suitable for family members. I once lost 7 troops to defeat just one.
Don't give up. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. If you are losing them go small. Other players will ignore you if you are not a threat giving you time to build a bigger army. On one game I played I had bad luck 2 turns in a row. I kept building and eventually had some good luck and turned the game around.
Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat - unless you are Conan.
