Yes. Most of the jobs the government does are necessary jobs that don't have an immediate profitable outcome.Borderdawg wrote:"Government jobs generate and save taxpayers money"?!?!?!?!

Yes but lawyers make money like crazy anyway. That article in the OP has a list where you can see that.edocsil wrote:Player, do you know how much a state defense lawyer makes? After a few years they make well over 100K. Simply put there are some extremely well payed government employees out there. There are a few exceptions, yes, as I noted.edocsil wrote:Player, do you know how much a state defense lawyer makes? After a few years they make well over 100K. In the natural resources fields, in particular, you often need to have a Masters degree to get a temporary, seasonal job with no benefits other than vacation and sick pay (these are not the base requirements, they are the realistic requiremetns).
#2 Government jobs generate and save taxpayers money. Companies make money for themselves.

No, because most government jobs are not inherently profitable in the SHORT TERM. However, without the things government employees do, be it research or designing projects, not to mention protection, etc. people would not be able to have those businesses that make money.Imaweasel wrote:1. Companies are supposed to make money for themselves...its why you start a business....durrrr
2. Government has only increased taxes since the time the began to be a government.
Also the more government jobs there are the MORE TAXES ARE NEED TO PAY THESE GOVERNMENT WORKERS!!!
Maybe the government workers themselves pay less taxes but the money to pay their wages comes from us and the more of them there are the more taxes we pay.
Companies pay their employees based of the sales of the company.
simple economics are lost on the masses

Pretty interesting read there.
Love the comments too. There's one guy who thinks he has it all figured out. If I had my druthers, I'd log on and tell him:
"While the government employees do, in fact, pay taxes, the companies competing with the government pay taxes to the government. Let me give you an example - Company X and Company Y are competing for the same employee. Company X steals Company Y's money and they can afford to give a higher salary to the employee. Done. You understand now?"
I hate people.

The private sector is great for researching things that will MAKE A PROFIT.Imaweasel wrote:
Private sector is well able to research and do things on its own. We have people building their own space exploration craft...like seriously the private sector, if unprohibited by big government, can do anything. People rise to the challenge. Its capitalism

http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/ne ... st.art.htmThe growth in six-figure salaries has pushed the average federal worker's pay to $71,206, compared with $40,331 in the private sector.
The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data.
Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% to 19% of civil servants during the recession's first 18 months — and that's before overtime pay and bonuses are counted.
Federal workers are enjoying an extraordinary boom time — in pay and hiring — during a recession that has cost 7.3 million jobs in the private sector.
The highest-paid federal employees are doing best of all on salary increases. Defense Department civilian employees earning $150,000 or more increased from 1,868 in December 2007 to 10,100 in June 2009, the most recent figure available.
When the recession started, the Transportation Department had only one person earning a salary of $170,000 or more. Eighteen months later, 1,690 employees had salaries above $170,000.
The trend to six-figure salaries is occurring throughout the federal government, in agencies big and small, high-tech and low-tech. The primary cause: substantial pay raises and new salary rules.
"There's no way to justify this to the American people. It's ridiculous," says Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, a first-term lawmaker who is on the House's federal workforce subcommittee.

and MEDEFE kiss my ass, those numbers are so well known to be the truth, it needs no source, you can do that on your own, and then scratch your head cuz and realize you dont know shit. so far all you have contributed to this thread is the fact the you are clueless to federal vs. private sector salaries. I didnt make the numbers up, and you sir have disqualified yourself from any credibility you pretend to have on this topic.
