Oh yeah! I lived in Canada, and I lived in 2 american cities, and I go shopping to the US regularly.

I can tell you, Canadians rock, the are friendly, educated and not as greedy. Toronto is a way better city to live that any city I have visited in the US.

this is why you shop here

I can't f****** stand the City.

If you walk outside, you're instantly raped by the heat and smell of smoke. Everything you touch outside is sticky and makes you question who pissed on it. Driving is moronic because the traffic is like watching two bricks race, and walking just scares the Hell out of me because all the taxi drivers seem to play the "let's see how close we can get to these pedestrians! LOLZ!" game.

hmm i thought this was a thread about non-US ideas off topic!!!!

Nazism while they had some practical similarities to socialism large state interference in the economy and central planning, their ideological motivation was very different. Which when we are talking about ideologies is more important.

hhahahaha, no New Orleans is the best city of the USA. Having lived and visited many cities around the US, there's nothing that comes close to New Orleans, its food, its music, and the generally favorable and pleasing attitude of its denizens.

New York is better than everything in the world. /thread

It's OK. If I had more time there, I could enjoy it, but the weather sucks, the people in general suck, but I'm sure it's a place you can learn to love. I've heard most of the people lighten up a bit if they see you more often, or if you aren't so "foreign" to them. I'm sure it's a great city, there's plenty to do, until about 2AM when the bars close--or is it 3AM?

New York is better than everything in the world.

When Saxi originally moved to the US it was to New York. As soon as Saxi could move he moved as far west as possible.

Saxi has been happily living in unincorporated San Benito County, California ever since (alternating between there and Tecate, Mexico in a 8-4 split, actually). There is no place Saxi would rather live than here, other than Germany, of course, if it weren't for some lingering legal misunderstandings that prevent me from returning at present.

I don't think that is anything to disparage. Look, for instance, at the EU's North Sea Province. They, quite literally, have people stacked on top of each other. It's frightful; the provincial capital - London - especially so. Canada is a proud and strong nation where people have room to breath and are not buggering each other by accident if they turn around abruptly.

Verily, it is a sad state-of-affairs when one's confidence exists only on the hope that something may happen, not the reality of it actually having occurred.

In the late '70's Canadians were trumpeting the impending domination of the C$ over the US$ as well. And that future did - indeed - come to pass, for a scant few weeks ... a few weeks out of three decades of follow-on, utter currency toiletry for the C$.

The United States is a dominating imperial power and the font of the parasitic menace of global capitalism. But Canada has no laurels to rest on in the universal struggle for world socialism toward which all free people strive. Canada's military is simply an adjunct reserve force to the US forces, placed under the unquestioning command of American officers through front groups like NORAD and NATO. In that sense, while the U.S. is to blame for much of parasitic global capitalism, Canada may be even worse for acting the role of the rather slavish, sycophantic gnome; the acorn that will never become the oak, or, keine großen Eichen der kleinen Eicheln wachsen.

Anywhoo, just my 0.02, gang!

In point of my own perspective:

For forty years, in the DDR, we keep saying "in a few months the ostmark will be worth more than the deutschmark" or "in a couple years the Volksarmee will be larger than the Bundeswehr" ... despite the whole of history showing that, despite occasional ebbs and flows, neither statement was sustainable and the people saying them knew they could lob these one liners out and slip back into anonymity, not actually being held accountable in "a few months" or "a few years" when history affirmed itself and none of these grandiose predictions ever came to pass.

That would be €0.014 right now.

Anyway, as neither an American nor Canadian I truly do hope that the wildest dreams of the northland you've enunciated herein do come to pass in a few months. After decades of holding their breath and making similarly wild predictions, Canada needs a few months of devaluation to take a big breath before having to hold it again. The maple leaf is turning purple and it doesn't look good.

You will have an opportunity nations similar to Canada such as the Slovak Republic (1943), Machuko (1935) and the Estonian Socialist Republic (1940) never had. You should celebrate! Let's celebrate, gang!

IMO, national pride should focus on Canada's excellent cultural heritage. Puppet states - and those things associated with it, such as currency - come and go. Instead of focusing on the trappings of their client status, Canada should celebrate their great cultural contributions; the great filmmakers Michel Brault, Gilles Groulx and Pierre Perrault - for instance - or Canada's contributions to lacrosse and hockey, or the country's unparalleled natural heritage, etc.

I recall it was the British ambassador to Canada who, in the '80's said, "Canadians have limited talents and are deeply unimpressive. Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do - in literature, the theater, skiing of whatever - tends to become a national figure. And anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once." I disagree with that extremely and find it a typically rude, British, disgusting, neo-colonialist sentiment.
