Now, we really don't want to hear about all that exchange-rate crap, ok?

Well...our dollar is pretty much at par with the American dollar right now.

Good thing it missed you...might've hurt if it hadn't gone a bit high there.

I'd rather our dollar not exceed yours to be truthful.

It just raises our interest rates, and I'm house shopping.

The caliber of our people, the vast wealth of our natural resources and the failing of your manifest destiny is the proof of our superiority anyway.

Typical British neo-colonialism.

From a final report on observations of Canada by Ambassador, the Baron Moran, to foreign secretary Sir Geoffrey Howe (http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/radio4/transcripts/Lord-Moran.pdf):

"1. The calibre of Canadian politicians is low. The level of debate in the House of Commons is correspondingly low. The majority of Canadian ministers are unimpressive and a few, frankly, bizarre.

2. Canadians are mildly nationalistic but less shrilly than Australians ... and perhaps somewhat lacking in self-confidence.

3. I am struck by the way Canadians have squandered their natural resources.

4. One does not here encounter the ferocious competition of talent as in the United Kingdom. Gifted Canadians simply seek wider opportunities elsewhere.

5. Canadians have limited talents and are deeply unimpressive. Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do - in literature, the theater, skiing of whatever - tends to become a national figure. And anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once."

Actually, Canada is legitimately to be praised for allowing the Quebecois the freedom to bring the nation to the brink of break-up in the spirit of diversity and multi-lingual tolerance. In America the Francophone minority in Louisiana was simply anhiliated so that French is a tourist novelty and little else. In that regard I have high praise for Canada as a nation of tolerance, regardless of the cost to the stability or continuance of its existence as an actual nation-state. And, when the day comes when "Canada" = Ontario and the Maritimes, "Quebec" = The Republic of Quebec and "B.C., Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta" = states 51-54, it will be a sad day  indeed, but simultaneously celebratory that diversity has triumphed!

Viva le Canada! Viva le QuƩbec! Viva tolerance and diversity!

I would like to hear from fellow non-Americans in this thread since that is the title of it, please.

ACHTUNG! Everyone needs to stop bad mouthing other countries and, instead, celebrate and embrace different cultures and national experiences.

I, for instance, am celebrating the 40th anniversary of the liberation action by the FLQ with a special SIG file. This is a way I am showing appreciation to the cultivation of tolerance and diversity exhibited by a passionate group of Canadians in standing-up to uni-lingualistic prejudice. Let's all show appreciation, gang. It's what this topsy-turvy world is all about: loving each other.

Thanks, gang!

It's a lot to do with population if you ask me. If Canada had the same population/land ratio as the USA, They would be having a lot of similar problems I would be willing to bet.

Dangers, gang. Newfie Premier Danny Williams didn't get the memo.

The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada is defending his decision to come to the U.S. for heart surgery. "I did not sign away my right to get the best possible health care for myself when I entered politics," he said.

Iceland is a heroic nation. Despite being saddled under the tyrannical thumb of NATO overlords during the Cold War, their plucky Coast Guard defeated the might of Britain's Imperialist Navy during the '76 fishing conflict in the Atlantic when an Icelandic hero of the working class ordered the crew of his 1200-tonne patrol boat to man the gun ports against a 2,400-tonne frigate of the imperialist navy, forcing the Queen to pull up her skirt and run back to the bed of her emasculated Greek husband. The AU provided a good summary of that incident: http://www1.american.edu/ted/icefish.htm.

I can tell you, verily, there was much cheering in Berlin back in the barracks of the Wachregiment Felix Dzerzhinsky when we watched that news on the tele that day. Our company commander, Aurt Fenstermacher, proclaimed "today we are all Icelandic!" It was a grand occasion! I remember it like yesterday - ahhh, memories of a better time.

Iceland is actually, despite it's island status, a very cool place to live. My only complaint while there was the wind, which could be...BRUTAL. But other than the wind, it was tremendous. I never got island fever there like I have in other places.

Pedro. I'm quite aware of the world. If you learn to read and understand perhaps you will see that most all posts have been involving North America.

Sorry about your little island. I didn't intend to ignore it. Much.
