Ubuntu

Post by alex951 »

is anyone running Ubuntu? do you like it? why or why not?

i'm debating whether or not to dual boot my netbook. its has a 250 GB hard drive which is enough room i think i only need like 10GB max for storing data. it should make my netbook run faster if i install it....i think :)

I was premium for 3 years man. What's that? You haven't even been here for one year yet? Oh... That's a shame.

I'm using it as a "dual boot" system on my laptop. It took forever to get an internet connection through wifi to work but had no problem with a hard wire connection. Other than that I am very pleased with it. I love the stripped down lean feel of this OS. If only there was more software available for this OS I would use it exclusively.

WINE generally works pretty well.

Yea, but that kind of defeats the purpose. I guess it's a good substitute until more software is available for the Linux platform but generally I hate running emulators.

I'm thinking about using wubi first just to see how I like it. If I'm as satisfied as you are then ill give it its own partition.

Wine Is Not (an) Emulator.

While Wine might not be "technically" an emulator in the traditional sense or that it might not fully resemble all aspects of emulators that we are familiar with, it still adds an additional layer of programming that is necessary to "translate" Unix equivalents into Windows API. For all intents and purposes (and I could even argue that by definition) it's an emulator, albeit a more sophisticated one.
