A nice Riesling, preferably from Germany always turns out well on the not too expensive white wine front.

I'm looking for recommendations of a good deli in New York for when I visit.

72o wrote:I recommend Yuengling as an American beer. It's not water like most American lagers, has a decent flavor, but it's not heavy and doesn't fill you up like my beloved Newcastle will after 4 or so.. Plus it's inexpensive because it's domestic. For a guys' night out, it will work well.

Regarding the barbecue lamb, I have had great success with this recipe for rack of lamb:

Ingredients:-

* 4 racks of lamb with 3 or 4 cutlets
* 1 onion finely chopped
* 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
* 3 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 tablespoon lemon juice
* 2 teaspoons honey
* salt and freshly ground black pepper
* 1 lemon

Method:-

Prepare the marinade by mixing the onion, vinegar, oil, lemon juice and honey into a shallow bowl and drop in the racks of lamb. The honey in the marinade will add a little thickness to the consistency and make it easier to brush on - I like to marinade overnight and use a brush occasionally to make sure all the meat is getting the benefit.

Season the racks of lamb well with the salt and pepper and grill for 15-20 minutes turning occasionally. Feel free to add more marinade as baste though the cooking process.

I do not like kung fu, so I have no recommendations there.

I do not know of any hotels in Gananoque. I don't even know where that is.

I call my middle toe "Toe". Actually that's what I call all of them.

Can someone recommend a good scotch, bourbon, or Canadian whiskey? I enjoy Balvenie, Maker's Mark, and Crown Royal. Always looking for something different.

Also looking for a recommendation on good cigars.

Scotch wise I can recommend any of the island malts, but I like Talisker the best. Not a cheap whisky, but I usually pick up a bottle from duty free when I go through airports. Oban is great too. Glenfiddich is nice as a more affordable Scotch.

Sym myS - are you looking for a deli in the US sense (it'll sell you a hot dog, coffe, whatever) or in the UK sense *somewhere to buy unusual and gourmet food items, mainly to take home and use in your own kitchen)?

If the latter, the Amish store (I forget its exact name, but it has "Amish" in the title) on about 44th Street, between 2nd and 3rd avenue is amazing.

In the US sense of a proper New York, pastrami on rye, chopped liver, kinda way. I've been to a few good places, but never in NYC.

There are plenty of good American brews, despite our reputation. Wherever you are, if you get a Sam Adams variety pack, you'll probably find at least one you can enjoy.

As far as Natty goes, if you want to feel like an American college student, that's the way to go. I had some left over by some friends from a party the other night, so I was lucky enough to partake (ran out of the usual).

Ignore the fact that I can't be bothered to shave or get a haircut (typical hippie).

EDIT: fucking comma splices... I'm not removing them, I'm just noting that they are there.

You might also like some of Ricky Gervais' podcasts with Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington. If you like Gervais' stuff, this is some of his best.

Well, it's practically summer now here, but I still recommend it.

And a good recent kung fu movie. Ong Bak was great.

hey did you come up with this idea for a thread on your own or do I get some credit for that one post where I whipped out 20 ideas and 20 inches.....

No, depends on how drunk you are when you drink the boxed wine.

Leave it to a Cornhusker to go off the deep end.
