These are not good examples of German cinema, Triumph des Willens and Goodbye Lenin are particularly bad.BigBallinStalin wrote:I've seen:

Das Leben Der Anderen (lol, nice chat, fellas)
Goodbye, Lenin!
Triumph of the Will (Skipped through a good bit of it)
and I'm probably forgetting a few others.

You are a man of culture and good taste! Great list!
From a historical perspective or for a student of cinematography it may be quite interesting. One should especially pay attention to what the jew is doing in the movie, and what the nazis were doing in reality at the time when it was produced.InkL0sed wrote:Jud Suss

As a resident of the FRG, allow me to allay your worries. Films about the holocaust are not generally considered comedy, with the possible exception of La vita è bella since it contains some humourous scenes, but that movie was made by Italians and no artistic responsibility for it can be laid at Germany's metaphorical doorstep.saxitoxin wrote:It is not truth.nietzsche wrote:Is it truth that you'll find movies about jews in concentration camps in the Comedy section in Germany?
Long before Liev Shriever made his version, there was a German production of Jakob the Liar which - as you know - was originally a book about the '40's-era holocaust that was perpetrated against Socialists, Jews, Roma and Homosexuals by the British-backed Nazi crime syndicate. This iteration was produced by DDR state film company.
DDR also produced many wild west adventures, however, in contrast to American "westerns" and Italian "spaghetti westerns" the DDR films always portrayed the Native-Americans as the heroes and the cowboys as the villains, which means that DDR films and media - generally speaking - were truer to fact while western film and media was/is - generally speaking - mere propaganda.
That said, these days, in the Fascist Republic of Germany I would not be surprised if holocaust films appear in the comedy section. That is the reality of the amoral, stinking capitalist armpit that is the FRG.(However, I can't say that with veracity as it's been 20 years since I've been in Germany due to a legal misunderstanding.)

I don't know why Germans would be embarrassed? Germans weren't responsible for the holocaust. The holocaust was perpetrated by an organized crime syndicate (the so-called Nazis) backed by the UK, in which a small number of Germans held leadership positions. Germans were as much victims of this western-backed crime syndicate as anyone. The great German hero Ernst Thälmann was one of the many, many Germans killed in the concentration camps operated by the UK-backed Nazi crime syndicate.BigBallinStalin wrote:For the Germans: (answer whatever as you please, if any at all)
How do you Germans feel while watching one of those holocaust movies?
What typical emotions go through you about that entire ordeal? Is it embarrassing or just long-gone history or.. what?

I'm glad to hear the Fascist Republic of Germany regime maintains at least the outward appearance of decency. This is a stark contrast to their warmongering, revisionist behavior of the last 60 years.MeDeFe wrote: As a resident of the FRG, allow me to allay your worries.
